Hi..First I want to say that in May of this year, I will be a 5 year survivor. I am doing very good, with only minor problems from the tamoxifen.
My question is not about me, I have a friend that had breast cancer 3 years ago, and she told me that she woke up the other morning with blood on her nightgown and that it came from her other breast. She said this has happened before also.
I told her that there has to be something wrong, and that she should see her Doctor. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, what did your Doctor do about it? Is it a sign of cancer in that breast? Thank you for your help.
Hugs, Lucy

Hi lucy and CONGRATULATIONS on your upcoming 5 year anniversary!!!

I'm shocked that this woman, who had bc 3 years ago, did not RUN to her doctor immediately, when this happened the FIRST time!!! I've not heard of anyone having frank bleeding from the breast and cannot offer any thoughts or ideas as to what could cause it. She needs to get this checked out straight away, like, yesterday. Harp on her if needed. Whatever is she thinking?

Continued good health to you and good luck to your friend.

    Love, light and laughter,

    HI Lucy,
Like Ink said..I can't believe she didn't call the doc asap with a history of bc...However, I can remember that I had a white sports top on and at some point I must have had a little blood just a drop or two from the nipple. I didn't even notice it until after it was washed. Still very ignorant I must have just forgotten all about it. I am not even sure how long it was before I notice a lump in the same breast. But as you can guess by my being here on this board, that it came back cancer. I am happy to report I am two years out now but if I ever saw anything like that again I would RUN RUN to the doctors.
I hope your friend get checks out and everything is OK,,,but it certainly would not hurt to get it checked.

Like Ink and Kristen, I agree that your friend should run to see a doctor. Bleeding from the nipple is a symptom that should quickly be examined. The cause of bleeding can be from benign conditions such as a papilloma (a friend had this which caused a bit of bleeding), however, bleeding could also be a sign of bigger problems. Strongly encourage her to make an appointment to get the situation checked out. It is so important.

About three years ago I had blood from the nipple on the left, rushed to the Dr. Had a mammogram, ultra sound and was informed I most likely had breast cancer. Since I am here I did but not in the breast with the discharge. My sister had the same thing three years before and it was a Intraductal Papilloma, she had it surgical removed. Only ten percent of the time bloody discharge is cancerous. On the other hand it has to be checked out especially with her history. Mine by the way has never bled since chemo and no one even checks but me!!!!!! I have had pain for two weeks in the ribs above my breast and in the middle of my breast espcially if I push on it. I have had this before but didn't last this long so suppose I will have to have it checked out. Probably more radiation damage I have had the worse time with fluid in my breast and pain since I had radiatin. We all come to hate going in even for regular check ups. Since mine is not until May 3th I may have to go early, might ease up the worrying also. Send your friend in as worry does us no good. God Bless Linda

I'm a little late in reading your posting, but I hope your friend has taken the advice offered here and already called her doctor. One of my closest friends had bleeding from her breast and it turned out to be Stage III breast cancer. I'm not saying that's necessarily the case with your friend, but she needs to see her doctor immediately. Good luck to her.
