hard disicion ahead

Hi all well i had another treatment thursday so rather tired today.My Doc talked to me and told me that once we get this in remission he wants to put me on another treatment plant where i would do chemo about every six to eight weeks but it would be for the rest of my life by the sounds of it.Iam not sure if that is how i want to live or not.i meant it woulndt be as harsh but sitll what kind of quility of life is that.if anyone could give me somme insight it would be helpful.thanks in advance Bunnie

    Hmmmmm. Never heard of chemo for life. I would suppose that you would be tested during the weeks you don't have treatments, to see how your body is reacting, and how your blood levels are, and if the cancer has spread. I would be well informed, and research the treatment you would be on. A well informed, educated patient is best to deal with their illness and talk well with your doctors and nurses.

    Don't try to make a decision on this yet. Just take the present and see if remission occurs. I'm still not sure if you are working on bone cancer or cancer in the bone marrow.

    I lately feel that the chemo is giving me leukemia but just waiting - will mention to onco when I see him next time. Last Thursday my blood count had gone down so much from previous two weeks that I got transfusion instead of chemo and double dose of Procrit.

    With cancer, it's hard to make advance decisions because it is so unpredictable.

    Keeping you in my prayers for some good news of remission.

    It is a hard decision...personally I'm fighting mine with diet, exercise, rest, alternative meds such as vitamins, anti-oxidants, flax seed, etc...AND LOT'S OF PRAYER!
    It just doesn't make sense to me to poisen the body with chemotherapy. I may be wrong, and that's just my personal opinion, but 'poisen and burn' makes as much sense to me as sticking a needle in a tumor just to see what's in there.
    This is why I advocate so strongly for research into alternative meds, but no one seems to listen. The NIH collects 27 billion dollars a year from tax payers for cancer research...1% of that goes into alt med reseach and the majority of that 1% is spent on accupuncture and massage! I know this doesn't help you any so enough of my venting. I wish you well and may God bless you with the wisdom to do what is best for you. (((HUGS))) hummingbyrd

    I've never heard of chemo for life either - have you checked "webmd.com" and/or "medscape.com" for information? Has the doctor given you the names of other patients who are doing this? You might want to check with the other patients to see what their experiences have been.

    Hi actually iam dealing with lung cancer and also cancer on the rib the main concern though is the lung cancer.Lucky me after having breast cancer i get to deal with the lung cancer.Thanks too all who have responed i made out some question i want asked before i decdei anything too help me make a more informed desicion.Bunnue

    Didn't know it was lung cancer bunnie...there is a new drug out called Iressa I'd reommend you look into. (((HUGS))) hummer

    What ever you do do not give up . What you are going through is a storm in your life right now. Take one day at a time and put your Trust in the Lord .John 6:14-21 talks about the storm .You are not alone in this storm there are alot of People that care about you . I went through cancer 13 yrs ago and a total of 6 months of chemo treatments . I was cancer free until last year they found a new breast cancer & I went through a total of 4 chemo treatments . I know they are not fun to go through but they do prolong life . I know you must have family that care about you and friends . I would Love to send you a one day at a time pen that some people in Alamogordo desinged and made them selves they are cancer survivors and it is true all we can do is take one day at a time and put our trust in God. If you need me I'm here for you .
