Hi all. I am 29 years old, undergoing chemo and am 5 months pregnant. Has anyone been through this while pregnant? I am scared for my baby at this point. Any advise? Thanks.

Hi...I can't really know what you're going through, but 16 years ago, my sister-in-law went through a mastectomy and chemo while pregnant. I think she was 4 or 5 months when she was diagnosed. She's from the midwest, so she went to Mayo's. I don't know anything about testing or anything, but I can tell you that the baby is a healthy, happy 16 year-old. Just keep going to the doctors, and get all the opinions you can. Do you have any oncologists in your area that have dealt with this before? If so, seek them out. If you don't know of any, call them all and ask. What have the doctors told you to this point? God bless and best wishes.

Hi there,
Well, my oncologist is great. She had dealt with this situation about 5 times and she said in all 5 cases, things were totally different. The one thing she told me this last visit was that she was talking to a doc from MD Anderson that specializes in this and that his real concern was the the placenta gets destroyed due to the chemo. But, that is something that my Perinatologist should be able to see happening before any trouble occurs. Thanks for your reply. It's always good to hear good stories. :-)

I remember reading someone's story when I was first beginning chemo. She was, I think, six months pregnant when they began chemo and she was getting the same meds I was- remember thinking if a pregnant woman can get thru this, so can it. She said, in her story, that the baby was born with hair to its bald mother - and both were fine afterwards. She had gone to the Cleveland Clinic.

She had a mastectomy and no radiation.

Good Luck to you and the baby.

Hi Heavenlee! I was just reading your story. Wow! My name is Angie. I was diagnosed on January 13, 1998. I was 29 years old also. I always laugh at the doctors and say, "but you said I was too young". You are an exceptional young woman to be going thru chemo while pregnant and raising a son. You are at the top of my hero list!!! I am 33 now and so far so good! I will be saying special prayers for you and your baby and sending all the best wishes I've got your way. Take care of yourself and God bless, angie (ludasuesnout@yahoo.com) (email me anytime you would like!!!)
