Hi everyone!

My name is Burkhard Haefner. I am a 36 years old German living and working in Belgium (in drug discovery research for Janssen Pharmaceutica). I have had a partial glossectomy (4 months ago) followed by radiotherapy of the mouth and neck (ended 7 weeks ago) because I had a squamous cell carcinoma of the oral tongue. I have just registered with the Cancer Survivors Network to find other people who have had tongue cancer to discuss our treatment and exchange experiences.

Regards

Burkhard

Hi! I too am 36 and new to the CS network. I registered to share my experiences. My life changed almost two years ago; I did not have a support group that understood what I was going through.

As I was recovering from the effects of radiation another young person was diagnosed with tongue cancer. One of my co-workers new the person. I mentioned to my doctors that if this person was a patient of theirs they could give him my telephone numbers if he wanted to talk to someone. He did call. From our talks I began thinking of others in the area looking for someone, so I called the local American Cancer Society and asked if they had a specific support group. They did not - so I am trying to get involved where I can.

Take care,
Sheila

Hi Burkhard,
I had my surgery for squamous cell carcinoma of the oral tongue in October 2000, followed by six weeks of radiation. I also had a neck dissection done at that same time. If I can be of any help to you let me know.
