edited March 2014 in Thyroid Cancer #1
I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in February 02. I had surgery in February 02 to remove my left thyroid lobe and again in April 02 to remove the right lobe. I then had radioactive iodine therapy in June 02. Beginning in June 02, I began experiencing a mild sore throat on the left side only. The pain then began to radiate up my neck and jaw line and eventually into my ear. I also experience swelling below my left ear on occasion. I have been back to my original surgeon and to three ear, nose and throat specialists. Nobody seems to be able to determine the source of the pain and a neck scan and blood tests are normal. Based on research I have done I keep thinking I have a salivary gland infection, but the doctors keep telling me I don't. I have been given Celebrex and Nuerontin and they do not ease the pain. Has anyone else experienced this? Thank you for any insight you can give me.

cmckeown-I have ear pain and headaches all day long! The doctors don't know what is causing it, I went to an eye doctor and my eyes were fine. The doctor then put me on an antibiotic, however I don't feel sick, just ear and head pain all the time. It came out of no where, that is why it is so scary! Are you sensitive to noises? What type of blood test, tyroid levels? Did this just come out of no where? ear infection? or allergies? good luck..

EAR AND NECK PAIN-ANYBODY GIVEN LIQUID MORPHINE
My ear and neck pain was the symptom that sent me to the thyroid dr. this led to a scan and needle biopsy which came back benign. this was on the left side. I had a goiter on the right side for seven yrs before that which when it was biopsied came back benign.

Well, I had surgery when the biopsy came back malignant in feb 2009 but they couldn't remove my tumor because it was too close to the aorta, etc. The doctor had been giving me vicodin--but because I was having trouble swallowing they switched to liquid morphine.

Has anybody else been given morphine for the pain in the ear and neck. My dr said the pain is due to the position of the tumor--not the degree of the cancer--altho that is said to be aggressive
