    Inspiration
Thanks for the story. Your 5-year NED is a great result. Your cancer journey is very similar to mine and because of that your 5-year Mark is all the more special.

My next step will be liver resection. I hope that goes well.

    Enjoy your NED!

    Mike

    Helping Others
You just don't know how much it helps the rest of us to
hear success stories; the journey can be mighty long and
tedious and hearing about those who made it to NED makes
that journey less difficult. I have scans coming up in
couple of weeks so I am hoping all is ok; I was ok the
last set of them. Thanks for telling your story; it gives
    me an extra positive boost.

    congrats
First of all let me say congratulations on being a survivor and let others know. I have been reading and trying to find people who have been survivors for this long to come forward and let other people know so that at least they have hope. My husband was diagnosed in June of 08 and also had four liver mets. which he had removed he. He also underwent chemo for six months. He has to undergo some tests to see if he would be eligible for a trial vaccine which should help with recurrence of the cancer. Are you on any special diet or supplements or are you just doing everything as before? Again I am very excited for you and wish you all the best.

    Congrats & Thank u
I also have stage 4 colon cancer. I have alot of spots on my liver and a few in my lungs and today I got a cat scan and the doctor is telling me that my ovaries are as big as bowling balls. Therefore I look like I am 12 months prego. And I have been doing chemo every week now since last April 2008. Now that my ovaries are that big they are finally thinking about taking them out. So your story really gives me hope. Thanks for the info. Take Care everyone Love Colleen

    Congratulations Doreen
Yeah for you and so glad you took the time to give your success story. I search the web for success stories like yours. Life has so much more meaning after that brush with death. I am 16 months NED and counting.

    FIVE YEAR SURVIVOR PLUS

First and foremost was my faith in God for Peace, Hope, Joy, Self Control, Wisdom, Patience, etc., knowing that ALL healing comes from him.

Nutrition is a good alternative therapy but it takes discipline

I had colon cancer in 2006, followed by 12 sessions of first -line- chemo, for tumors in the colon and liver; in 2009 had a recurrence, small tumor in one lung. In my opinion this was due to 'to over consumption of animal protein  from chicken and fish. had already cut out red meat in 2006 but tried to use too much fish and chicken as a substitute. I didn't listen nor understood my dietitian here in Germany, her advice was to only eat enough meat to hold or squeeze in one hand. Since then (2009) I only eat fish or chicken  once or twice a week; again only enough to squeeze or hold in one hand, as my dietitian recommended in 2007. Recommend seeing more than one cancer speciallzed dietitian. To get the vegetable color and other ingredients, I steam and eat daily a mixed frozen veggie package with fresh celery, etc. I also daily eat home-made mixture of frozen berries with yoghurt (about 8 oz).

I have a good exercise plan and consume at least 2 liters of water or fluid per day in addition to my food
