Sorry about the previous unfinished message...I completed taxol treatment in July. I lost my hair in May and have been sporting a bald head for the summer. My hair is starting to grow back, but I'd like to have a wig made for when I return to work in September. I am African American and I save my locs that I cut off when I was diagnosed last summer. Does anyone know of anyone who can make me a wig from my locs? I don't feel comfortable wearing wigs that are made with straightened hair because I always wore my hair naturally and I want to feel like myself when I return to work. Being bald has kept me cool during the summer, but I don't feel like myself this way either. I know this may sound trivial, but I think feeling good cosmetically will help me to recover more quickly. As all of you know, the toll that all the medication takes on our bodies can be a difficult thing to cope with. Hope someone can help me.

I am also an African American survivor who didn't feel comfortable with a wig and couldn't sport a bald head at my stuffy corporate workplace. What I've done is wear scarves wrapped around my head in the style that is so fashionable now with women of color. Many people have no idea that I am without hair; they just think it's my style. I feel like myself more than I ever could with a wig. (I had a medium short natural hair style and it was impossible to find even a distant approximation.)
Good luck!

Hi, I just finished 4 treatments of A/C and am starting weekly taxol and herceptin tomorrow. My hair has started to grow back already and my Dr. said it should continue to do so. However, I feel just like you, I have a wig and have never worn it! I can't stand it. I always wear a bandana. Everyone says they all look so cute, but I don't think that once my hair comes back in that I will ever want to wear one again The American Cancer Society has a Look Good Feel Better program that is free to you. I think that cosmetologists are the volunteers. You may want to check that out if you really want a wig made. You might find some help there. I hope that all is going well for you! God Bless you!
