With so much discussion about treatment options going on, I want to tell you about my Thursday. I've stated more than a few times that I wonder just how "rare" UPSC is, since in my little world, in the past 2 1/2 years, I have personally known 3 women with it. My cancer was the garden variety, endometrial adenocarcinoma. I don't personally know anyone else with this type that's supposed to be so common, only UPSC women (and of course, many many breast cancer survivors). Go figure.

2 years ago, when I was going through chemotherapy and radiation for my breast cancer, a high school friend who had UPSC and I supported each other as she was going through her treatments at the same time. She was Stage 1B UPSC. She had 4 rounds of carboplatin and taxol and internal radiation. We hadn't talked in about a year and that's just not right, and she's really been on my mind, so Thursday I called her. Her cancer is back and she's back on chemo - again carboplatin and taxol since it was initially successful (really?). Her recurrence is throughout her pelvis, but organs all look ok. It's not at the top of her vaginal cuff that we all have so carefully checked. I guess the internal radiation worked. She did not have external pelvic radiation. Would it have made a difference? I don't know. As Maggie used to say - "it's a crap shoot".

I post this just to add to our "database". It just plain sucks.

    Yes I tend to agree with the saying "IT'S A CRAP SHOOT". Sorry to hear about your friend's recurrence, but thankfully you're doing well and can be HER SUPPORT during the new treatments.

    My therapist who as well is a long time cancer survivor and works in a cancer support center...sees people daily with all kinds of cancers. One thing I've learned from her, enjoy each and every day...don't worry about all the details such as every bite of food we put in our mouths or if we're ingesting the proper supplements, etc. She has seen so many people who are obsessed with every detail, thinking they'll never see the beast come back. Unfortunately, many do see recurrences.

    Her motto -- simply keep a smile on our faces and enjoy our lives today, as tomorrow could be quite different. Know God is the one who controls our destiny in life.

    Sorry to hear about your friend.
    I agree with the statement It's a crap shoot also. It is in God's hands and no one knows when or where or how. Just take it one day at a time and enjoy everything to the fullest. Praying for your friend to get through this recurrance. trish
