New to this site
Hi, I am newly diagnosed with some sort of cancer (hopefully ovarian). I had a baseball size tumor removed from my right ovary last Monday. My gyn/onc also removed the other ovary and 5 lymph nodes which were all clean. My gyn/onc didn't think the tumor was cancer by looking at it but the lap report indicated otherwise so…

Cyberknife vs. traditional radiation
Hello all, I have on and off these boards since 2008. I have been fighting the beast since then with little break. I just had surgery to try to remove four tumors that chemo didn't get. Unfortunately one was in a life threatening place and could not be fully removed. My Doctor is suggesting radiation and chemo. I had this…

For those of you on Coumadin
I've been seeing alot of posts lately about coumadin. When I saw my oncologist in White Plains, I brought her a article I clipped out of the paper about coumadin (name brand) versus warfarin (generic). It seems from the article that it's better to take the name brand versus the generic as pharmacies usually change…

Hi, I am new to this. I will be starting chemo treatments next week. I go in tomorrow to have the port put in. Of course all I am feeling right now is scared, scared, scared. It has been such a journey this past month, I can't believe it. I have so many questions, and don't know where to begin. Guess all I am looking for…

Blood Thinners
My onc. is keeping me on blood thinners even though my post-surgical blood clot has resolved. Apparently people on chemo are at higher risk of blood clots, so he does this routinely. At least that's what he tells me. Is anyone else on blood thinners or was while on chemo? I would really love to discontinue those daily…

Thank you everyone for you kind replies
I really means alot to have this support. Today is not such a bad day and will be seeing the oncologist. So thank you again to everyone who has responded to my posts. By the way, now I know why docs don't suggest Hexalen, the oral pill. It did absolutely nothing for me except make the cancer worse. But, what the heck, I…

Saw my pcp today and told him how I've been feeling all weekend, ankles swollen, and can actually feel tumor middle of my chest. Asked him if it was ascites, he said no. He was quite sad when he told me the cancer has worsened since I've been on the Hexalen pill (January). He said that what I'm feeling in my chest is most…

Recieved a nice invitation today
from a wonderful woman I met awhile ago who runs an organization that raises monies and awareness for OVCA. She lost her daughter who was 24, and she works tirelessly in her daughter's name. She invited me to be her guest at a fundraiser and is sitting me at a table with other organizers of local run/walks and other…

Chemo Over
So, my 8 courses of chemo (carbo/taxol) are over and I've had a PET scan. Apparently a couple of small tumors disappeared and there's two that are pretty small that have gotten smaller. My onc. had talked about maintenance chemo, this visit he said he was now putting me on just Avastin every three weeks. When I questioned…

Teal Warriors
In July I will celebrate 3 years Cancer Free. Since my diagnosis of Ovarian and Uterine Cancer in 2008 I find myself getting more and more angry or bitter if you will at the fact that there are hardly any organizations relating to Ovarian/Uterine Cancer. Recently my sister decided to become a co-chair for a breast cancer…

Has anyone had ascites - I think I do now
I think I have ascites, my abdomen is a little distended, I've gained some weight despite not eating anything more than usual and my ankle seems a little puffy. My cancer is getting worse. Has anyone had this? What needed to be done? If you had drainage did your gyn/onc do it in the hospital or someone else. Any…

Lulu1010 can you answer a question for me about the overnite carbo infusion - you answered my post
Thank you for letting me know you had the carbo infusion as a slow drip. Did you stay overnight in the hospital? Were you able to get all 6 cycles and was it Carboplatin alone and anything else you can share with me would be appreciated. Thanks again.

Non-chemo OVCA therapy
Here's the link to something interesting said about PARP inhibitors (still in clinical trials). The best part of this article is the part where the expert says (and I paraphrase) "patients with ovarian cancer, for various reasons, are living longer than ever before."…

Doxil
I had my first Doxil treatment this week. I know it has little side effects but I felt tired and not much appetite. Did anyone else who had this have minor side effects. I sure didnt feel like doing much. The other question is what kinds of things did you do during the time of treatment. I know we are not to use our hands…
