Urinary infections
Linda is waiting on test results for a urinary infection. It always crops up when we try to return to "normal" if you catch my drift. But this same thing has had its advent with every bout of cancer and having just come off treatment where the tumor went away dramatically after four rounds of three treatments each, none of…

Marty White (aka Mawty)
I had forgotten she had a Caring Bridge page. Someone posted a link to it on Face Book today. This just breaks my heart. I hate this damn disease. Here is Marty's latest message from CB. Things changed. Now I'm not having radiation because the cancer has spread through my upper abdomen. I started my first chemo today.…

Here's the latest....
Picked up the slides from the pathology dept of the hospital where I had my debulking surgery and over-nighted them to Dr Sabbantini, along with a CD of the films I had done back in March of 2010. Got my gyn/oncologist's office to schedule a new CT scan for me Thursday. (How convenient....since I was already going to the…

"I wish you felt like I do"
That's what my husband told me this evening, in a fit of pique. He's sick. He has chills and a little bit of a temp (less than 101). He's achy and miserable. I get that. But he's also whiny. Absurdly whiny. Yesterday, at the onset of his grave illness, he mentioned several times that maybe he should go to the ER. Tonight…

One Step Closer
The scheduling nurse from MSK called me this morning and confirmed my appointment on Jan 19th. She gave a a list of things I need to bring/send: the glass slides from the hospital's pathology dept, taken during my initial surgery, and a CD with my CT films from last March. They also want me to have a new CT scan done…

Helen for Hope -23 year OC survivior
I just posted this article on the Uterine board as I go back and forth since Uterine Papillary Serous is much more similar to OC. I had posted a question about Cisplatin/Doxirubicin and got this wonderful response from Helen. While the article is dated 2003 she is still going strong today and is active in Ovarian Cancer…

Surgery this Wed.
Hello to all! Well, it turns out that all of the constipation and nausea I had with the Hexalen may not have been from the Hexalen at all. I have a "stricture" or "apple core lesion" on my colon, and the colon is only 2-3 centimeters wide in this area. I am going to have surgery this Wed. (they moved fast on this, barium…

I just got my ca125 results from 12/22, after completing the clincial trial. I rose from 192 to 662 in one month. WOW. my ca125 was 720 when I was initally diagnosed. Not sure what these means but it can't be good. The ct scan I had done at the same time didn't show much progression. Maybe I just have a higher…

Weight loss....
Just wondering what everybody does to combat the weight loss associated with chemo. My mom is 5'9" and usually a thin 130 pounds. She's down to 108 right now and it's still pouring off her. She just started taking decadron so I'm hoping that helps quickly. She has an appetite but gets full very fast. Plus usually throws up…

The DAMN nerve!!
So my 4 year old son and I were heading in to hang out with my mom during her chemo today, and right out front of the clinic there are 2 benches. I am getting concerned about Marty (Mawty). She hasn't posted in a long time, either on here or on FaceBook. Anyone have an e-mail addy for her? Carlene

Ladies....be your own advocate
At the end of our last episode, Carlene had talked to Dr Sabbatini's clinical trial nurse and his scheduler, who gave her preliminary approval and penciled her in for a Jan 19th appointment, re the vaccine trial at MSK. Her local gyn/oncologist's office promised to fax over her records ASAP. (That was for the edification…

My medical center has not been able to do any ca125 testing due to a nationwide problem with the 'reagents' or 'reactors' used. They said the FDA was involved and they are not able to get any 'good' reagents. Is anyone else having this problem. They are drawing my blood but saving it for testing. My blood was draw over…

Can a CA125 go up 100 points IN A WEEK???
I had my CA125 drawn a week ago before what I hoped would be 2nd infusion of carboplatin and was thrilled that my CA125 went down from 298 to 238 after 1 round of carbo. But my platelets tanked so bad that I had to get a transfusion instead of getting my 2nd round of carbo. Yesterday I went back to try again for my chemo…

Mom has been accepted into a clinical trial
There are 75 clinics around the world accepting 350 patients into this clinical trial. Mom's oncologist's team has 38 patients and mom is one of them. I really hope this is the answer we have all been praying for. The trial has been going on for a while and apparently the results are encouraging. Has anyone else…

Mom going through hell. Anyone had this or heard of it? What can we do to get the doctor to listen??
Mom is 27 radiation and 6 chemo treatments down. She has had pretty much every reaction you could imagine plus some I didn't even think could happen. She ended up in the hospital before Christmas with a pulmonary embolism. Got out 4 days before Christmas but ended up in ER on Christmas day due to dehydration. She wasn't…

Half way there
Hi all, New Year's Eve day marked my 3rd of 6th chemos. Half way there! Things are going well, the fatigue is definitely catching up and subtle transitory neuropathy is making itself known. At least I didn't have a UTI after this chemo like I did after my second one...which really knocked me out. I've been eating well and…

What The ????
I have learned this morning that I also have kidney cancer ! This is crazy ! I've always joked that if it weren't for bad luck I would have no luck but come on now ! If it wasn't for the ct/pet scan I would not have known about it until it was too late, no symptoms at all. Good thing is that hopefully it has been caught in…
