Time for CA 125 again
I had my blood draw for my latest CA 125 last Wednesday. I usually wait the two days to call my onc' office for the result. They mail me a written copy about a week later. This time I decided to wait for the result to come in the mail. I hate making that phone call and waiting, it seems like forever, for the result. One…

Can CT meds increase CA 125?
Has anyone experienced CA 125 number increase after berium (sp) and iodine contrast used in CTs? This was the first time I had CA125 immediately following having a CT. My numbers more than doubled. The CT came back clear. I experienced tremendous bowel problems after drinking the "goop". It was as if I drank "go-litely"…

Support Groups not so good
So I went twice to an ovarian cancer support group and it was totally depressing. All the women there where on there second, third and even seventh recurrence. For me every pain is a "recurrence". The whole time in my head I was thinking this is what I have to look forward to?! Another women was talkibg about eating a…

State Disability, Social Security, Social Security Disability
Just thought I would pass this info on to anyone who might find it helpful. I may have mentioned some of this before. My last day of work was 2/26/2010. I was ill but didn't know the horrible truth yet. After literally begging my doctor for more tests I was given the CT scan which forever changed my life. I applied for…

Herceptin for ovarian cancer
I was reading about the treatment of recurrent OVCA in The Oncologist. The article discussed the possibility of using Herceptin if the patient tested positive for the HER2 neu receptor. Apparently, 12-25% of women with ovarian cancer test positive for HER2neu receptor. I'm wondering if anyone has had a conversation with…

Hi - This is my first time actually writing on this board although I have been reading comments since July 2011. I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in June and had a hysterectomy in July. I had 6 carbo/taxol treatments and had very few side effects. My last chemo was 12/21/11 and I am having more and more of these "hot…

Wading through the WWW
When I was diagnosed with cancer, I asked the doctor for the "cancer's" name. It was not something she disclosed and she was walking out when I asked the question. She told me the name. Telling her I was going to research it, I wrote it down. She said do not believe everything you read out on the web. I have heard that and…

How to ask for help
I am 45 years old, married, with a 15 year old daughter. I was diagnosed in april of 2008, got about a year and a half of remission, and have been fighting this reoccurrence since then. Been on clinical trials, carbo/taxol, Gemzar, now Topotecan, which doesn't seem to be working--we are waiting a ca 125 from last week to…

ovarian cysts ---already a breast cancer patient
I am a breast cancer patient on CSN, but wonder if anyone had ovarian cysts that led to a dx of cancer? They are "watching them" for 8 weeks, and I do not wait well. :( Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks, Carol

what's been happening with me
Hi haven't been on in a while. Had some problems and have been on Alimta now going into my 3rd cycle. Been really hard on my blood counts and had to get a blood transfusion recently so my 3rd chemo was put on hold. Hopefully, my counts will have gone back up. I had a partial bowel obstruction a few months ago because I…

neuropathy
I've done 5 treatments of weekly taxol and the neuropathy has gotten very bad. My hands, feet, and calves feel like they are on fire with tingles. Nothing helps. At what point does the treatment become worse than the disease? I don't know if I can continue with the taxol but I'm scared to stop it. I have cried every day…

Good Diet thoughts
Although my diet is reasonbly good I am still looking for more info about what I should be adding to my diet. Why do people think it's done and over with once we achieve remission?
People act as though now that I am in remission that everything is behind me. For crying out loud, it's not even been two yrs. since my husband died (will be in April). I was diagnosed in May, 2011. My husband was a minister, so we did own our own house. We were living in one owned by the church at the time of his…

Fork in the road
My sister had debulking ( stage 3c) 6 rounds of Taxol/Cisplatin/avastin IP and IV. Her OVCA was still there. CA 125 was down to 90's at the end of that. She then had IP port removed. IV taxol now for about 4 rounds along with Avastin. CT scan last week I guess shows some Nodules on the lung. A breast biopsy tested positive…

A little new year's humor.....
As we progress into the year 2012, I want to thank all of you for your educational e-mails over the past year 2011. I am totally screwed up now and have little chance of recovery. I no longer open a bathroom door without using a paper towel, or have the waitress put lemon slices in my ice water without worrying about the…

6th Chemo Today, but May Have to Endure a 7th
I was diagnosed with an ovarian cancer and have gone through Taxol/Carboplatin chemo over the past 4 months, 6 rounds so far. My CA 125 jumped after the first chemo from 170 to 446. It has gradually been coming down after each chemo session, but my doctor is concerned as to why it has remained high (even though it is…

Second round of Carbo/Gemzar/avastin
I had myself prepared to have my ca125 number go up or stay the same from researching this drug combo. I had read a lot of posts where it took two or more treatments before the number would start to drop. So it was a pleasant surprise to find out my number dropped to 7, it was only 34 but I am very excited to get such a…
