Number of rounds of carbo/taxol
Hi ladies. My mother has completed 8 rounds of carbo/taxol. 3 pre-surgery and 5 post-surgery. Her CA125 was very high pre and post surgery. 40,000 pre-surgery down to 977 post-surgery then back up to 3,000 when she restarted chemo. The carbo/taxol has been decreasing the number. It's now down to 172. It still seems to be…

Pep talk for all
Just wanted to say my sister who had ovarian cancer as of right now has beaten the odds. I can't remember when she was first diagnosed due to my fibro fog, but it was stage 3. She received chemo and then went to a doctor in Atlanta and received heated chemo. Thus far, this has worked for her; as of now there is no evidence…

Doing All I Can to Put the Word Out About Ovarian Cancer Through Videos Now!
It's been a while since I've been on the boards and now that I'm back it's still shocking to see so many new names/faces dealing with ovarian cancers. For those who do not know me, I decided to take a break from the board at a time when we seemed to be losing so many sisters in this fight. It was overwhelming and I felt so…

But I don't feel sick...
I was very sick before I had my surgery in May. I've tolerated the chemo well overall (I've had 3 treatments). Anyway, some family members will say "you're sick." I don't feel sick! I'm up and about, feeling better than I have in several months. I know they mean well, and are just concerned, but I don't feel fragile! :)…

Encountering more ovarian cancer patients and a survivor!
Yesterday while in Kroger, a lady came up to me, pointing at my hat, and said "My hair used to look like yours." She said he was 73 and diagnosed with ovarian cancer (stage 3) in July 2010. She ended her chemo in April. She had a nice hair of head. She was so sweet. The other day a friend called to check on me. She was…

Topotecan
I've been having bloating recently so I had my CA125 taken and went to see my oncologist. My numbers are up from 122 to 1,467. It is so strange because I don't actually feel unwell and where I usually get fluid around my lungs they are currently clear. Anyway I will be having Topotecan. It is a weekly cycle where you have…

Vein Pain
I just finished chemo 4. My HEM/ONC raised my dosage of Tax/Carb because he said I tolerate it well. I am disapointed that after my 3rd chemo that my CA125 only dropped 1 point from 13 to 12. My blood counts also have not dropped much. I thought that was good, but ONC said they want to see some drop to know it is…

THIS IS UNFORGIVABLE
http://health.msn.com/health-topics/cancer/cancer-drug-shortages-getting-worse-fda-says-2?gt1=31036 As discussed here earlier, some cancer drugs are on 'short supply'. As I read this article I was disgusted at the flimsy but very disconcerting excuses - 'misprints on drug label', 'contamination'. Who's policing this branch…

Learned something new from my eye doctor today
I love my eye doc! Besides being a brain cancer survivor, he is so compassionate. I asked him about a side effect I have been having from cisplatin/gemzar. I've been noticing that for about a week after infusion, I think I see shadows/shapes/etc. out of the corner of my eyes. He told me that your eyes get there blood…

Now, it is back to 2. I am still doing integrative treatments of IV vitamin C, although less frequently than in the past, diet, exercise,…

Great book!
In case anyone is interested in reading a fascinating, gripping history of cancer, get "The Emperor of All Maladies," by Siddartha Mukherjee. My oncologist suggested it to me, and I loved it. The author is an oncologist and the book is up for a Pulitzer.
