My Bucket List
This is my FaceBook post for today. I thought I'd post it here for those who don't FaceBook. . Before I go, I'd like to have high cheekbones. I'd like to talk less like New Jersey, and more like Claire Bloom. And whenever I enter a room, I'd like an orchestra to burst into my theme song. I'd like to have a theme song…

Hi all, First of all my prayers with all the patients. My mother is 74 and diagnosed with ovarian cancer ( letf one, 8 cm tumor) 7 months ago. she had her womd removed 5 yaers before. The only symptom was her swollen left foot. After scan and blood test the doctor diagnosed a tumor but due to her age surgery was not an…

Does anyone get scared having a pet scan??
had a pet scan this week and dreaded going under the machine as it almost touches your face. The tech told me some people put a towel over their eyes so they don't see at all. I had one of my little chemo caps on so I pulled it down over my eyes and it really worked wonders I wasn't as scared this time. Some people get…

Dear Laundry Queen,
I tried to find the article you recommended to Libby about cancer and inflammation: http://www.cancernetwork.com/binary_content_servlet but hit a dead end blank screen. It sounds interesting, do you know what I'm doing wrong? Thank you, Chris

Thank you Clamryn (Linda) for your response
Thank you Linda. I am glad to hear that you are on Coumadin and Avastin. As I said, I'm on injections of blood thinner and my body is so bruised from the injections, it isn't funny. I plan on letting my dr. know that I will give the injections only a few more months and then if I have to will go back on coumadin. My…

Just signed up for clinical trial at MD Anderson
I just signed up for a Phase 1 clinical trial, this one includes Doxil, Avastin and Torisel. They said it has had some real good results so far with other cancers and is close to going into Phase 2. I hope it works for me. I don't look forward to giving up some of my favorite things, fresh tomatoes (that are riping in my…

first line chemo checkup dilemma
my sister, who was diagnosed with UPSC IVB in February, 2011, is coming up on her third carbo/taxol treatment. Her oncologist tells her that she will get a CT scan as well as a CA125 test to see if the treatment is working. Unfortunately, the CA125 test does not seem to be a marker for her--she has been under 30, including…

Question for anyone on or had been on Avastin
Hi,I would really appreciate any responses from people who are currently on Avastin and a blood thinner. Or anyone on Avastin and Coumadin? Or, on no blood thinners at all and never had a problem with the Avastin? I know one other person on this board is on an injectable blood thinner. Last year I had developed a small…

Avastin/taxol not working what next??
Well, been on this **** of a ride for close to 4 years now. Had avastin and taxol for a bout a year. What a wonderful combo. Low dose no hair loss pretty stable blood counts now for the 2nd month my markers are up to 43. So low, but I am so sensitive to the markers that even when they were 20 I still showed small disease…

Phase I/II clinical trial: viral therapy
I found this on the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center web site (866-627-7616) This is biological therapy instead of chemotherapy. Viral Therapy in Treating Patients With Ovarian Epithelial Cancer, Primary Peritoneal Cancer, or Fallopian Tube Cancer That Did Not Respond to Platinum Chemotherapy Identifier…

PET Scan tomorrow, possible recurrence.
I started feeling bloated and fatigued a couple of months ago. For approximately one year my CA-125 has been 5 or 6. I was diagnosed stage 3b February 1, 2010. Before surgery my CA-125 was only 72. I had an optimal de-bulking surgery on that date. I completed six rounds of chemo: Taxotere and Carboplatin. Then I was given…

Mom given 6-12 months
Its PPC, and it is not responding to chemo. As a matter of fact, her gyn/onc said it has spread and there is a mass sitting on her liver. We are devastated and shocked. She is not a surgical candidate and clinical trials will not take her because of her deconditioned state. She is stoic and taking the news far better than…

port has flipped, on avastin, what to do?
So my port has flipped over. I have 2 doctors, an oncologist and gyn-onc. One says I can have it surgically flipped back and possibly it needs to be reattached, no problem while on Avastin treatment. The other says, "no" you will have to wait for 28 days after your treatment with Avastin is done. Hummm................ And…

My mom's surgery is this Thursday
My mom's surgery for her ovarian cancer is this Thursday at 11:00 am central time. I'm very worried. The gyn/onc said he's not doing the surgery to prolong her life, as her cancer was already spread, but rather, to keep her from extensive bleeding later on. Never have heard such a thing. I asked him if he found it in the…

Libby's Update
My update from app't yesterday. Stopped Doxil as CTscan showed disease progression - ascites & 5mm (very small) spot on Peritoneal in upper abdomen. With rise in last CA125 this tells my doctor that Doxil is not working, so since I am in a clinical trial I have to stop the doxil. We have elected to cross over to the PARP…

You asked if anyone else is suffering with pain. Since starting my Avastin I am having such terrible pain everywhere even my toes hurt ! I think the Avastin is ramping up my athritis but I hurt in places that never hurt before , my neck , arms and shoulder too. I was already on medication for the athritis and back pain and…

Gyn/Oncs point of view
Elevated CA125 shows an upward trend. When it passes 100, he recommends treatment. Briefly considered Tamoxifen, but decided against it. He said, if it were his wife, he would wait until it passes 100 and then opt for second line chemo. The question is this, which second line is the best choice? I'm not worried about…

An option to consider for liver mets: Interventional Radiologist
I am meeting with an Interventional Radiologist Wednesday to discuss treatment options for my extensive liver metastesis. I just wanted to throw this out as an idea for those of you who may have liver mets and are running out of effective chemo options. We had to really press hard for a referral from my oncologist, but the…

Cancer is not only the tumor; it's also the process
The "targeted therapy" (such as Avastin) approach towards the treatment of cancer demonstrates a paradigm shift towards changing the environment that promotes cancer. Included with this is understanding the "epigenetic" triggers to cancer & how the individual can actively lower their risk of cancer occurrence & recurrence.…

Dr's office staff pi$$ing me off.
Hello everyone!! I haven't been on for a few weeks. I have been hospitalized twice with bowel obstructions. I was VERY lucky to have them resolve on their own over a few days in the hospital. I am trying to go back to work. I am a nurse in an Emergency room. I have been on medical leave since Feb 2010. Since I was gone for…

Latest test results

Just needed to vent
It's been about a month or so since I have been on this site and since then its been crappy, even though I am truly trying to stay positive. I about 3 weeks ago I had to have 2 emergency surgeries within 24 hours because my intestines kinked. I had a complication from the fist surgery. A stitch busted open inside me and I…

Hi Carlene - no I didn't take your info re: antidepressants negatively
Hi Carlene, No, please be sure you didn't leave me with that impression. I also take an anti-anxiety pill but I guess I just don't appreciate the way nurses take it upon themselves to recommmend anti depressants to a patient. I just feel that people with cancer are dealing with just some type of stress because of the…

My mom was laid to rest today
only 10 months after being diagnosed with OVCA. Trying to be thankful that she's in a better place with no suffering and no more pain. I miss her already and can't imagine my life going on without her in it. To realize I can't pick up the phone and call her to tell her something funny that happened or to vent about…

CT results
I got my CT results las Thursday. CT was clear in the bowel, and the pesky tumor on the cava vein was 2.7 cm, up from 2.2. So, it grew a bit but the lymph nodes were zapped by the taxol/carbo, we can assume. My comment to my doctor was that I'm sure that if we were to take a PET, there would be small tumors on the bowel…

Dear Carlene re: your response to Sarah re: antidepressants
Dear Carlene, I was so happy to hear what you wrote to Sarah re: antidepressants. I couldn't agree with you more. I've been battling this for several years and most recently the oncology nurse said to me, that I should be on antidepressants and maybe should talk to a psychiatrist. I was so furious with her because I felt…
