Talked to Sloan today going in one week!
we have an appointment on the 26th with Dr Kingham who is a surgeon. I spoke with coordinator and the nurse who said she thought he would be able to help us. She said their surgeons were quite skilled and not afraid of resecting in the caudate lobe. They put us with the surgeon they felt was the best fit for my husband’s…

I feel like I just walked out the exit door
Through my going on and off of this forum during my colon cancer journey, I know that we all like to hear good news when it exists. I am happy to say that this morning I had my port removed, which was a very short surgical procedure. Physically I feel pretty good, but mentally I feel like I just walked out the exit door of…

trouble eating and swallowing
Hi all I am new to this group. I am going to be 60 next month and have been very much a 'glass half full' person. I usually find humor in even the darkest of days, but lately been having trouble remaining positive with chronic pain and chemo symptoms. I also have lupus, which complicates everything. I was diagnosed w/…

How to get into messages?
I saw that I had some new messages last night right before I shut off my computer. I intended to respond today. If the message isn't there that I have new messages, how do I find them? Sorry, I'm so simple when it comes to technology. Thanks! Jan

New to the group
Hello Friends I am new to the board. I was pleased after reading the thread. It’s not the usual Debbie Downers and Whiners. I was diagnosed in 09/2014 and had surgery in 12/2014. The surgery removed the bottom 16” and Woke up with a colostomy bag. It was not for me and I had reversal in May 2015. I’ve accepted the…

18 Month Scan NED!
Hi All! I have not been on the Forum as much since healing after my ileostomy reversal, getting used to the new normal and going on the road to visit family and friends. Today was a "big deep breath day" going for the 18 month scan. My oncologist shared the results immediately and so grateful for NED... Thanks to all of…

Cancer Vaccine
I wonder anybody heard about new cancer vaccine that found in Israeli. It is on youtube I watched yesterday. It looks like it worked on o 7 patients. I appreciate if anybody put some more feedback about it to share. I don’t know about reliablity of that vaccine. Thanks for feedback.

You would think...
I have been awaiting a colonoscopy due to the questionable observations from a recent CT scan. Getting it scheduled has been a priority for me because I am suppose to have my ostomy take down surgery on 26 March. If I have "issues" in my rectum then it stands to reason that I should not prematurely take down my ostomy…

Sometimes cold sensitivity is due to cold
I had cold sensitivity this morning and asked my wife if her fingers were numb and she said yes. I guess it was cold and I cleaned the snow off the car. It's two weeks out from the infusion. I'm working very hard to avoid the Womens Only Thread.

For women only
i have a question for all the women so no peeking from men. Lol Has the chemo affected your menstral cycle? During my chemo treatment between September 2017 till my last one of February 2018, I have experienced some irregular cycles where I would be late in some months and the month of November and February were completely…

A glimmer of hope
so my husband called the office today and said someone needed to call him back. So finally they did and he actually has an appointment with the surgeon. I still don’t know for sure if he will get surgery but he is willing to talk to him about options. He wants another scan which is the 21st. His concern is not the omentum…

This isn't good is it?
My DH oncologist called and told him that because his scans were mixed (some mets grew some shrunk) and his CEA levels are rising that she is changing treatment. He was on Folfox with avastain. Now switching to Folfri with Erbitux. There are no other lines of treatment are there? Isn't Folfri the second line of treatment?…

The Lowdown on Cannabis, Please
I know there have been many threads on this and there's two sides to it. I'm wondering if someone can just simplify it for me, please. It's the THC that helps us, right? We need just that in some form. It helps with what exactly? And what's the most effective and easy way to get it into the system? I've never smoked pot…

It's time for a coly...it's been close to a year
DH will have a coly early this week. This will technically be his first since the one that discovered the tumor didn't allow the first one to actually be completed. There have been scans, he is really worried since the last coly totally changed our world. He went into the test just Turning 38 and woke up to emergency stage…

5FU
i have 3 treatments of 5fU left. My hands and feet are killing me. My hair has thinned so I cut it really short. My family has not come around unless I have something for them to do. My daughter has not come for any treatment. We have only gone to our daughters house one time unannounced to tell her I had cancer. They live…

Has anyone had a liver resection and omentum involvement or
any other tumor locations? Everything I know from the past resection says if it’s anyplace else no resection. So I feel going to Sloan Kettering is wasting our time. However it’s one tiny 4mm nodule that has not grown or changed since April of 2017 so there is no proof it is or isn’t cancer.

CEA level rising during chemotherapy
Hello, My mother diagnosed with colon cancer stage 3B, 5 months ago. Her 11th term of chemotherapy (out of 12) scheduled on this Wednesday. Something is not normal in her blood tests before each chemotherapy session. Her CEA level before surgery was 7 and after surgery has kept rising steadily. It has reached 16, last…

Fare thee well, Sir John Sulston
http://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-43349774 The unsung heros of our time. I'm also going to add this link. A female surgeon walked eight miles in blizzard conditions, to perform surgery on a CRC patient in Glasgow, Scotland. http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-43343056 Tru

worst news ever please help
I have been watching this omentum nodule since it suddenly appeared in a ct scan in April of 2017 they said a 6mm anterior abdomen nodule is stable. Like it’s been there but no mention of it. they don’t mention it in January of 2017. So in decrmber it says a 4mm nodule is unchanged, same thing on scan in February saying it…

Today is my husband’s last chemo!!
he made it through all 12 only the last two without Oxilipatin. He will be an getting appointment to plan his liver surgery as well. I am very cautiously looking towards the end! On another note my 15 year old daughter has ulcerative colitis and needs to have her second colonoscopy before she starts Entyvio, nothing is…

Whining for no good reason
Hi Fellow Semi-colons! I have no reason to whine. Seriously. No reason at all. I'm 11.5 years NED for colon cancer which is a super, super blessing! But today I had my first colonoscopy in 5 years due to not having insurance for a while. Anyway, 6 polyps were found, two in the hepatic flexure, two in the splenic flexure,…

Today I beat the 2 year recurrence wall
Hi all, I have been having all my blood work and scans this week. It has been a rough time since this was the 2 year mark since my last recurrence. Since being diagnosed 6 years and a few months ago, the tests at the 2 year mark have always found a recurrence. I have not been able to get past that point. So this week I was…

The Woods
I had a CT scan last week (approximately 90 days after adjuvant chemo) and was counseled yesterday by my oncologist regarding the results. I am not out of the woods yet. The radiologist who read the scan detected some areas/items of interest. My oncologist is now in the process of coordinating a colonoscopy to better…

A new journey begins.....
I don't post on here much, but I do lurk quite often. Well it's offical my wife is officially 5 yrs NED. We (or she) has officially been told by our oncologist "no need to come back and see me." Thought I never would hear those words. She was diagnosed with Stage IIIB CRC. Went through all the "typical" treatment rad/chemo…

For men only, the post-surgical issue
I had the problem where ejaculate didn't come out the usual way and I thought it was coming out of the rear end so I got up the courage to ask the surgeon today and she said that it was likely retrograde ejaculation where it goes into the bladder because of the trauma to the nerves or urethra. She said that if there was a…

It’s gotten out of control
My husband was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer one year ago at age 37. We have two small children. I love my husband, and I’ve been by his side through everything this past year. But something has changed, I am wondering if it is the daily dose of dexamethasone added; aside from the IV dose of the steroid that he gets…

TACE procedure, anyone have experience with this
My husband just completed 12 rounds of Folfox (?spelling?) and will now change to Folfiri due to numbness in hands and feet. He is also scheduled to meet with IR regarding TACE. I am wondering what the side effects of this would be, has anyone had this done? How long is it, is it an overnight thing or same day like his…

Stage 4 CRC -- are trials worth it?
Hi everyone, I've already asked this before in a different post, but thought it wouldn't hurt to ask again in an attempt to make a rational decision. I'm currently have stage 4 colon cancer, been stage4 for 9 years, now age 44, male, really nice guy. Why is it the nicest people always get cancer? Anyway, here is my…

Nuts, again
This has already been a topic on the board, but it bears repeating--a 42% reduction in recurrence for stage 3 people who eat tree nuts. New article, but I could only find it in abstract format, not the full text:…
