Questions about 1 year colonoscopy
I'm scheduled to have my colonoscopy tomorrow. This will be the first one I've had since my surgery & chemo(Stage III with 1 lymph node). I'm very apprehensive but I know that it will most likely show no cancer and no tumor. What I'm really saying is I'm curious of the odds of the cancer returning to my colon. Would y'all…

Hi All! Back from a spring break getaway with wife and kids. For those who are new here, I am a 7 plus year survivor of stage 3 rectal cancer. Disease free since April 1999 and considered cured. Still think about cancer every day, but am living a beautiful life, and one that I worked hard to keep (chemoradiation, surgery,…

Insurance under HIPAA
Hi Guys: I have a question for anyone who may have experience with insurance under HIPAA, preferably in CA, but other info are welcome too. I am a month away from exhausting my COBRA coverage from a previous employer, so I am researching my insurance options for the future. After reading through all the HIPAA rules on…

Famous people with Colorectal Cancer
I've been watching this program on NBC about Micheal J. Fox and his advocacy work for Parkinson's Disease (and I REALLY admire him for his work!). It just made me curious about famous people who have been touched by colorectal cancer. I can only think of Katie Couric (who interviewed Michael J. Fox), and I THINK (but I'm…

Thank You Howard!
Thank you for giving me the web site. I am really struggling with my decision. Do you remember the TNM staging of yours? Mine was T3,no,mx. My lesion was in my Transverse (sp)colon. The surgeon also did not see any mets to the liver. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the cure rate is 90% with just surgery, and it only…

update - polyps after remission
Heard from my doc late yesterday that the polyp was just a "baby" and was benign. Yeah! I didn't even buy a one year ticket to a c-scope - still can go every two years. So, I am relieved - isn't it funny though how Cancer checks in on you once it awhile just to remind you? Anyhow thank you all for your kind words and…

Laugh for the day
This one's from Reader's Digest: A marine biologist was telling his friends about some of his most recent research findings. "Some whales can communicate at a distance of 300 miles" he said. "What the he** would one whale say to another 300 miles away?" asked his sarcastic friend. "I'm not absolutely sure," the expert…

Steroids
Is administration of steroids a given when on chemo? I'm trying hard to feed my friend a pristine diet and aside from the poisons of the chemo, Mark is given steroids as well. What is the general reason for the steriods (I know, I need to ask the doctor but he is pretty much absent since the clinical trial has begun). Has…
