Still NED
With new people getting diagnosed and the tragic losses we've seen, I'm never sure if/when good news is appropriate. But then I guess for those that are recently diagnosed, it's good to know that it's possible to beat this disease. I was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer on May 11 of this year at 35 years of age, with…

re: Bowel blockage and pain
My friend who is two days into his Xeloda/radiation treatment for rectal cancer has had a blockage for months causing constipation with pressure and pain. I've read that blockages can be dangerous and require immediate surgery. I'm very concerned about this pain. The doctors involved (four or more) gave him morphine (which…

calcium/magnesium/FOLFOX
I'd love to hear from anyone who has received calcium/magnesium infusion to address peripheral neuropathy (pins & needles, sensitivity to cold) associated with FOLFOX treatment. After 8 cycles of FOLFOX, I started having more persistent and more troublesome neuropathy. So, with my 9th treatment, I had calcium/magnesium…

Prognosis: 1 YEAR
My father pinned down the doctor for a prognosis this visit. Doctor said he has about 1 year. My father asked about a few new treatments I read about, HAI (infusion directly to the liver) and alternating systemic chemo every other week...doc shot that down and said it's been around since the 70's and it's not really…

My wife had anal canal "squamus cloacogenic carcinoma". She went through chemo + radiation this Aug/Sep. Compared to some I have read, she is not doing too badly - mostly fatigue, ... and diarrhea. From reading here, it appears that this may continue for a while. Has anyone found ways to alleviate it? Immodium doesn't seem…

re: Xeloda dosages - please help
My friend will start the Xeloda and radiation tomorrow. His doctor gave him 500 mg - three pills in the morning, two at night. Has anyone else out there had that dosage? 2500 mg. per day seems high to me from what I've been reading. I'm concerned about bad side effects - hand/food syndrome etc. I realize everyone is…

Travel in 2006!
Greetings All.... I hope this finds everyone in a "tolerable" place in their journey... There has been some discussion about planning the Paloozas for 2006. The general idea is to have two trips, so that folks can make one or the other, depending on treatments, schedules, cash flow, etc. To date, the times of year seem to…

re: In need of some encouraging words for friend
My friend will begin his radiation (rectal cancer) and chemo (Xeloda) this Monday. He is scared, to say the least. The long list of side effects for both treatments is overwhelming. He's afraid he'll have to stop working, lose his hair, become impotent (a couple of docs told him this was a given), won't be able to play his…

re: Radiation results - testing before 5 weeks
On a visit to the radiologist with my friend, one of my questions was "when will he get tested to see if the radiation is working?" The doctor replied that no testing (MRI/CT) is done until the entire regimen is given. I thought that was odd - what if the tumor in question shrinks significantly before the 5 week point? Why…

Does anyone irrigate, is it time consuming, is it gross, and do you do it daily or every other day. If you don't want to answer here, you can email me through this site. I appreciate your in put. moe
