Off topic...but tomorrow (December 12) will be hard....
It was my daughter, Stephanie's, birthday. It's been almost 4 years since she is gone, but I still miss her. It's true that she had her troubles. She was emotionally disturbed and mentally retarded. But, she had a heart of gold. On a 'good' day, she would always have a smile, and a hug, for all of us. Happy Birthday, my…

Do oncologists generally avoid giving a prognosis? I have yet to be given one, and have not specifically asked for one. Just wondering.

Elizabeth Edwards had my surgeon
I am reading her book "Saving Graces" and was surprised to read that Barbara Smith was also the one who told her that she had breast cancer. Dr. Smith is an angel and I've always had the utmost trust in her and it was nice to read that Elizabeth felt the same way about her. What a remarkable woman Elizabeth was and how…

Met with radiologist this afternoon.
He was very comforting and thorough in explaining why he thinks I need radiation. I had bilateral mastectomy in June and my tumor edge was very close to the pectoral muscle and my chest wall. Thank goodness I didn't have any lymph node involvement. He feels that I need 5 weeks of radiation. I go for my CT scan and mapping…

Need some advice & tips for surgery
I'm scheduled for a lumpectomy on Wed. Dec. 15. What do you recommend to wear and take with me? I'd like to go prepared and leave semi comfortable. Do I need a special bra? No bra? Any other tips to make the brief stay better. BTW, it is outpatient surgery, so no overnight stay. Thanks ahead of time for the heads up. :)
