to reconstruct or not decision
I am into cycle 2 of pre-surgery chemo, expect to have masectomy on one breast. At first, I planned on no reconstruction surgery....mostly because I did not wish the addition surgeries and down time from my work as an underwater diver. However, now I am wondering would I regret that decision, would I feel very…

how long after radiation for expander exchange
I was wondering how long people had to wait until they had their expanders removed and implants put in after radiation. My doctor just told me he likes to wait at least 9 months until he does the exchange to let everything heal well. He says if it is done sooner then problems can occur. It is hard to image having these…

Shortness of breath with expanders?
I had a double mast. at the end of Feb with immediate reconstruction. I've had three fills in the expanders thus far and with the last one I've experienced some shortness of breath. I thought I read (on here?) that the expansions can cause it, but was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? It is getting…

I DESPERATELY need opinions!!
I can't believe I need to post this here, but some of you know how unhappy I am with my oncologist and I haven't been able to find a new one so for now I am just sticking it out. He gave me a script for Arimidex to start after rads which should be now! I asked him why he prescribed Arimidex when I've heard that you should…

New Life!
I took this expressions picture this morning. We had about 2-3 inches of snow last night and this morning this tulip was showing through the snow. I've been overwhelmed with the wonder of spring this year as I feel I've been given a new chance at life. I've been reborn - after the recovery from surgery and coming out of…

Question about antibiotics and chemo
Will they still give you chemo if you are taking an antibiotic? I started an antibiotic on Monday for an abcessed tooth. They also did a root canal. They wouldn't do my tissue expander today because of antibiotic. I'm so frustrated. If they don't do my chemo tomorrow I may scream. I just want a little normalacy in my life.…

Radiated skin and future cosmetic surgery.
Hi, I had lumpectomy, chemo and radiation in 06. Recently I have felt that I would like to have a breast lift. At my consultation, the surgeon said that radiated skin has a compromised blood supply and it relies on the skin around it. He said that because of this, there is a risk that the skin will die as a result of the…

I colored my half inch of hair
I was so tired of looking at dark gray and white on my head. I decided to try and color it. I used Revlon Colorsilk in light auburn and it turned out great. I think in a few weeks I'll be putting away these wigs, for good I hope. If my daughter was here, I'd post a picture. I can't believe it's been 3 months since chemo…

mastectomy w/reconstruction or just mastectomy
I am just curious how many of you out there chose not to have reconstruction at the time of your mastectomy. Did you not want to do it? Was there a medical reason not to have it done at the same time? Or did you think you would do reconstruction later and then change your mind? I wanted to do it all at once, but was…

Queastion about Sentinal Node Biopsy
I am having immediate reconstruction with the DIEP. The doctor said yesterday that if my nodes were positive and we found out at the same time as we were doing the DIEP - the radiation I would have to have later would harm the new tissue. SO she said I will have the Seninal Node Biospy this Friday and then on May 5th have…
