Tongue in cheek
This part is real. I was just reading that arimidex is used by atheletes along with steroids. It seems that tamoxifen is also used but that arimidex is better for stacking because of it does more than block the estrogen. I am always amazed at the stupidity of people. All this to be bigger, stronger, and perform better. And…

BRCA 1 and ovarian cancer
I am a 50 year old surviving 1 year from stage 4 ovarian cancer. Recently, I tested positive for BRCA 1 gene. My oncologist and internist are pushing the use of tamoxifen even tho BRCA 1 doesn't seem to be blocked by that drug. Just wondered if anyone else had this "combo" and what treatments they received. I would like to…

Losing Chemo Weight
Does anyone have info/suggestions on when it's ok to start working on losing weight after your last chemo treatment? I'm not doing radiation, and am anxious to get the weight loss started, not only for my self image, but to get rid of a risk factor.

Aromacin side effects
Hi Everyone. I haven't posted in a long while but I need some input. I read the posts almost everyday to keep up with everyone. I've been coming to this board since 2003 and was very active for a long time. I had dcis with 2 small invasive tumors, had a mastectomy, reconstruction and put on tomoxifen. I was clean for 4 yrs…

getting pregnant after dcis
I was diagnosed with DCIS a couple of years ago, i had the lumpectomy and the follow up radiation and have been going for regular mammograms and check ups since. I was considering having another child but im worried this might increase my risk of the cancer coming back cause of all the hormone changes. Is there any…

Lapatnib/Tykerb?
Hi, I'm new to posting and to the boards. I've been on Herceptin for 6 years and it is apparently not working like it used to. Now, I'm supposed to go on Lapatnib. It was going to be lapatnib/xeloda combo, but now I'm thinking of a clinical trial in which they would keep me on the herceptin and add lapatnib. I'm confused,…

Exhausted!
I am so exhausted I can hardly keep my eyes open. Friday I have #11 (of 12) taxol/herceptin infusions ... and I had been doing just GREAT ... until about 2 weeks ago and then "it" hit me like a ton of bricks. I have been totally wiped out. I go to bed at 8:00 and still don't want to get up when the alarm goes off at 6:30.…

Got dates
Okay there's the line up LOL :) June 9th for marking by the plastic surgeon. June 10 to outpatient radiology of nuclear injection for the lymph biopsy. And mastectomy on June 11 with a latissimus dorsi flap and tissue expander. Did I type all that right? Hope so. They said the surgery should be 4 to 6 hours and a 2 to 5…

Alone again...and sad
Hello all, Well, tomorrow it will have been 2 wks. since my surgery. I took my sister to the airport this afternoon, and now me, my husband, and our daughter are alone again...with Willow, the puppy, of course. My advice on puppies after surgery: don't get one!! I adore this little sweetheart, but she is the straw that is…

One more time....
Well, Hans had his LAST (hopefully!) surgery yesterday for his heart!!!! We went to the hospital where I had worked, and where he is on staff. We found our 'big' family!!! Everyone was so caring and involved. SUCH a welcome change from the last facility!!! We had to stay overnight, which was a surprise, so I didn't come…

Gentlemen, please respond...
The topic was brought up about those of us women who have begun to pay attention to other women's breasts for various reasons. I was just wondering if any of you gentlemen have had similar reactions since your diagnosis, or if it's just a "girl thing". Thanks, seof.

Other women
Do any of you find yourself looking at other women's breasts? I do. In person, on the street, even on tv. I vary between jealousy, envy, to viewing them as potential lethal weapons. Anyone else?

Hi there
I have been out of the loop for a while and didn't recognize any names. To all the new people, I was diagnosed March 08, had a lumpectomy in April, chemo May - July and radiation Aug - Sept.....I'm still in recovery from the ugly side effects of chemo but I'm still here to tell my story and that's good enough for me. Since…

Triple negative breast cancer and chemo
This came out in the New England Journal of Medicine on May 14th. Apparently, older women with early stage receptor status negative breast cancer (as well as those with positive receptors) did much better on standard chemotherapy than on Xeloda, which is becoming a treatment option for certain triple negatives. Even though…

Learning to Hate Pink
Prior to being given the diagnosis of breast cancer for xmas last year....my favorite color was pink. Now, I can hardly stand it. Don't get me wrong, I am 100% for supporting the cause, walked in the Kommen Race for the Cure even tho very weak from chemo, etc.....but it seems like friends, well wishing i'm sure, are intent…

when does the "survivor clock" start?
I'm always hearing about survivor anniversaries but can someone tell me when the "survivor clock" starts? I was diagnosed in late July 2008 (stage one) and had two lumpectomies and bilat mast between Aug 8 and Sept 2. Last chemo was Dec 1 and started Arimidex. Had a revision of the bilat mast in April due to huge…

Hi. I'm new.
This is my first visit to this website and I am amazed at all the information and support. I began my TCH chemo treatments in December and finished about a month ago. I'm now on day 16 of 33 radiation treatments, and will get Hercepton every three weeks through December. In the last week I find myself feeling more sad and…

Surviving
This past weekend I was at a minor league baseball game where it just happened to be breast cancer awareness. The players had on pink jerseys and people were handing out BC awareness info, mammogram, SBE etc...One woman seemed a bit lecturing to me and was telling me how "you'd better be careful, listen to...". I finally…

Lymphodema question
During my surgery the DR. accidently cut a vein while removing the lymph nodes. It caused a huge hematoma that took forever to clear up and they are very concerned about my developing problems with lymphodema. So far it's just numbness and tingling...no swelling or soreness, and I have full range of motion with the…
