Results of 23andMe DNA test
Hi everyone, I received the results from my 23andMe DNA test and wanted to share some of them with you. The reports that come directly from 23andMe are rather unimpressive but the data behind those reports is compelling. To get to that data, I paid an additional $5 to a company called Promethease which then linked directly…

lung mets
Hello- I know there are some women who had lung mets. What were your treatments? Did it spread anywhere else? My mom possibly has lung mets....everything else on pathology was negative...lymph nodes included. So weird....so it possibly jumped to the lungs....Doctors are having a heck of a time trying to figure this out and…

What to tell loved ones about our condition
I had a major revelation this week related to what I do and do not discuss with my family about my situation. The background: Fifteen years ago, we learned through surgery that my mom's colon cancer had recurred and was so extensive that the surgeon had not even tried to remove it all. She was still groggy and in recovery…

Life hacks for living with cancer
For scalp pain and peripheral neuropathy: I'm about a week and a half out from my 2nd chemo treatment. My hair had been coming out quickly and then stopped coming out just before the 2nd chemo, leaving me with about half a head of hair. In the past few days my scalp has started tingling/burning again. Neuropathy in my feet…

Forgive me, especially Molimoli's family
I have been off the Board for a while, not because I no longer care, but because I do care and feel deeply the terrible losses we survivors have faced, especially on this Board. You know, I saw it coming- Moli only posting once after her surgery and then SILENCE. And then more silence and more silence. I just couldn't…

Have now met with a new member of my team, my cardiologist. He is wonderful. Pretty lucky, I am. Do have a small hole in heart but that is congenital. They could fix it if it becomes a problem. (I have no symptoms but fatigue and is that from chemo, external exray or brachy.. no telling) Not sure about the afib. I had ekg,…

One Year Ago Today...
This is my 1st year anniversary of my hysterectomy. What a fast year! Now, do I count this as 1 year cancer free? Or does that clock start post chemo? Since I am stage 1A I think I can safely say 1 year cancer free as of today. That means only one more year of every 3 month check ups. Woo Hoo! :-) I completed chemo exactly…

ER doctor said "might be cancer"....
I'm 35, and over the course of several months I have been dealing with constipation, bad menstrual pain, and diarrhea. 6 months ago I got an ultrasound, and they said the ovarian cyst looked normal. Fast forward to the last month. I have bloating that won't go away. And it's not normal looking bloating....it looks like I'm…

Brachytherapy treatment question
I went for my simulation appointment today for Brachy. I was told that I would be given a CT scan before each of my five treatments. I am concerned about the additional radiation from all these CT scans on top of the internal radiation. In your experience, were you given a CT scan at each visit? Can I ask a second…

taxol/carbo vs. doxorubicin/cisplatin
Hi all. Just wanted to get some chemo thoughts/opinions. My mom had a bad reaction to taxol/carbo during her second treatment a couple weeks ago (chest pains, redness, "seeing stars" within the first 45 seconds) and is starting her new regimen of doxorubicin and cisplatin today. This new chemo seems like it is less…

I just finished 35, hour long pelvic external radiation treatments. I have diarrhea constantly and now I'm having vaginal bleeding. It's worse after a bowel movement. I had a radical hysterectomy in 2013. I'm hoping it may be coming from lesions from burns because as bad as my buttocks were burned my insides are probly…

Metformin question
After reading about Metformin on this board I asked my oncologist about it. He said in 2016 it is not a standard treatment, but that could change. There is research being done at Mayo. He also said to check with my regular doctor at my next appointment since I did have a fasting blood sugar of 102 the year prior. He said…

70 is good
When we learned my dad had lung cancer back in the 80's, the first question I asked his dr was what is the 5 year survival rate. What that really meant was can you cure him. He just shook his head. I guess that's why when I was diagnosed in March of 2012 at the age of 65, the first thing that popped into my head was I…
