Puts things in perspective
Last night there was a house fire in North St Louis. Two little girls were rescued by firefighters but sadly one lost her life shortly thereafter from smoke inhalation, she was 7. This morning I went to hyperbarics and they brought the other little girl by ambulance from Children's Hospital, she is only 6 years old. She…

20 down,10 to go!
Hi Everyone, 10 days to go! This has been a rough ride. I can hardly look at my husband without bursting into tears at times. He has lost 20 lbs so far. The nutritionist told him he HAD to start drinking more calories. He is getting about 2600 calories a day now which I know isn’t a lot, but he has not lost any weight in…

Op yesterday
had my throat op yesterday. Double endoscopy. The surgeon reached the blockage from my stomach end with a probe, the probe had a wire inside and probed the scar tissue until it pierced right through then another surgeon pushed a balloon probe and dilated the stricture from the throat, it was successful, they've left a tube…

Fentanyl (Duragesic) patch
I want to share this about the fentanyl patch. The starting dose is based on how much you're taking of other narcotics - not based on age, weight, etc. I found a dose calculator and it recommended a dose for my husband that was the lowest strength patch available as he was only taking liquid Norco about 6 times a day. He…

Emergency room. So tired of all this
Hi all, We are having a horrible day today. Quite frankly we are running in fumes and just don't have much left. So this is when I keep telling God that I know His power is made perfect in our weekness and that I know he doesn't give us more than we can handle. I just don't want this any more. We are so, so tired. I want…

G tube removal
I just came upon this website tonight and have been reading all the posts about pain after radiation treatments have ended. My husband completed his 30 radiations one week ago today. We knew that the throat/swallow pain relief wouldn't be immediate, but they said he'd be much better in two weeks when he returns and his…

Update - biopsy results
So I went back to the ENT today as my biopsy results were in. I am back in limbo again with more testing and more waiting. My DR said that the mass at the base of my tongue that he took 5 pieces of tissue from definitely is NOT showing as normal or benign, but the pathology report did not show a definitive cancer either.…

Had thyroidectomy and high…

Wasn't home long
Wasn't home long. My brother got me home Saturdsy at 530 and went to pick up scripts. By 730 I was back to hospital via ambulance. Vomiting and dry heaves. Was worried sick about tearing out surgery. Not sure if too many narcotics or last minute switch in narcotics as I left hospital or obstructed bowel. Couldn't keep down…

Question about HPV & Tongue Cancer Connection

ok I am going to give in and use the PEG
So I am not getting enough water or food in me and have decided to use the peg for a while and see how it goes. I do not remember exactly howto use it tho. I want to just use the bolus(sp) method but do you push the boost down or just let it drip? Do you dilute it? I feel kind of ignorant because its been so long since its…

Hi Everyone, My husband has had 15 out of 30 rads. Yesterday he went in for his appt with the Chemo onc and was told he was being switched off Cisplatin to carboplatin. He was quite disappointed because he thought cisplatin was suppose to give him the best chance. He has stage 4A BOT. Only one lymph node. The doc said…

Surgery done
I am doing exceptionally well or at least the morphine makes me think I am! They were very concerned with how best to put me under. Anesthesia was difficult and the most concerning safety issue for them. I had Mayo send them the procedure they used in September using nasal fiber optics, they ended up using same procedure.…
