If you were in my shoes. . .
Last week I posted a message about my rising CEA level, from 8 right after surgery to 16 a week ago. The colon cancer was Stage 1, and I had a colon resection and removal of 48 lymph nodes which were all normal. I had both the CT scan and last week the PET scan, and both were normal. The hemotology/ oncologist has…

I'm really scared
Hi all, I hope you all are doing well I'm sorry that I haven't gotten to post much replies to messages lately. Seems like I'm not meant to take chemo. The doctor is postponing it until April 12th, because of the blood infection. That means 3 more weeks for it to grow. It is very large already and everytime he checks me, he…

Oxygen spreads cancer, Myth or True?
Have you heard that when a patient is operated on and is opened up that once the oxygen hits the cancer it spreads or speeds up the spread of cancer? I always thought it was a myth but a visiting nurse told my parents this is true, that it is in the medical books. Has anyone else ever heard of this or been told this?

need to hear success stories
My father recently had surgery for colon cancer and during his stay in the hospital they found spots on his liver that turned out to be a stage 4 cancer. Has anyone out there been in this same situation or known of a family member or friend that has survived this? The doctors did give him hope undergoing chemo treatments…

to steved--re: pet scans
Steve, I have to disagree with you on your post concerning pet scans. I work in a radiology dept. and have discussed with many of the docs tests that I have needed since my cancer diagnosis. I was diagnosed on 3/17/03 and saw a general surgeon that day who told me I did not need a pet scan. (This was not a major cancer…

My Dear Dad Newly Diagnosed
Hi, I am so happy to find this support network. We just lost my Mom two years ago to lung cancer. My Dad was the most wonderful compasionate care giver for her. Port placement
I had a port put in on Friday morning. It is below the collarbone about an inch and the tube goes across the collarbone to the jugular vein. It is still quite painful, and I'm getting a pain in the chest. Is this common, and how long will it take to get used to. The tube sticks out very pronounced in the neck. Any advice…

Looking forward to today?!!??
I know that we are supposed to wake up each morning grateful for the brand new day, but how do you do that when it hurts to go to the bathroom every time you go (and you go a lot, because of diarrhea, and besides, constipation hurts too, because you are still fighting that anal fissure), and everthing you do takes all your…
