I posted a photo.
Hi, On my last day of rads, the techs asked if I wanted to keep my mask. Abby, my daughter, had been curious about it. So I said yes. I've posted a photo of her wearing it on my expressions page. Hugs, Linda

Drive-Thru Mastectomy went well
Arrive at 1:30, Surgery at 4:30, Home at 7! Yes, I'm calling it my "drive-thru mastectomy"! Everything went very well. Came home with a dressing, the dang drain, and an On-Q. Anyone heard of this? I hadn't. Its a small tube inserted right into the surgical area, connected to a big ball in its own carrying case. This…

Lumpectomy vs Mastectomy
I met with my surgeon on Wednesday and she has told me that I have to have a lumpectomy instead of a mastectomy. While I am pleasantly surprised by this, I am also wondering if it means that later on if I will eventually have to have a mastectomy anyway. She is also going to do a lymph node dissection because level 1 is…

The timer has gone off, and I'm done. You can take my brain out of the oven and let it cool for a while now... No news on the CT scan yet. I think the onc must have put a different priority on it... Hugs, Linda

Joke for Friday .....
... One evening a Husband, thinking he was being funny, said to his wife, "Perhaps we should start washing your clothes in 'Slim Fast'. Maybe it would take a few inches off of your butt!" His wife was not amused, and decided that she simply couldn't let such a comment go un rewarded. The next morning the husband took a…

Beautiful surprise... Thank you
Yall are the BEST!!! I was surprised by a man ringing my doorbell holding a beautiful flower bouquet. Thank you all, it brightened my day and I think the delivery man got a good chuckle because standing in front of him was this bald headed, pale cancer patient with some kind of strange orange/red lips. My granddaughter was…

Hairy Side Effects Anyone?
Hi there. Just finished 12 weeks of Erbitux as part of a clinical trial along with 4 rounds of Ixempra for Triple Negative Breast cancer. Decadron, Benadryl and Pepcid were used as pre-meds for each treatment. The Erbitux caused what is called acnerash and I would periodically (~3 weeks apart) take a 7-day steroid pack to…

lighting a candle for all
I am lighting a candle for all and any who need it. There are so many sisters here that are dealing with such big issues. We have a sister facing hospice, many other with mets, many facing tests, surgery, chemo, rads. And of course all of us have faced cancer. Some, like me, are with NED but still there are fears of will…

First, after today I will only have two days left of rads!!! And I am at half dose of decadron.... Second, I had a great visit with the rads onc yesterday. He talked about a possible procedure that we might be able to use (if we find an effective chemo) on the mets to the medistinal lymph nodes. I really like having…

hesters blog brain mets
Brain Mets 8/2/2012 (1:01:50pm)Tags: noneComments: (0) I do know this is a terrifying topic, but there is actually some "good" news. Most of us are aware the breast cancer can spread to the brain, that some breast cancers (most frequently those that are Her2 positive or triple negative) are more likely to do so, and that…

Need advice from all my mastectomy gals--scheduled for Friday--YIKES!
My husband and I saw my surgeon today. He wants to do a left-side mastectomy on Friday. When I asked about doing both--he was strongly against it. His reasoning: he said we are in the "cancer-fighting mode" right now and doing the disease-free side as well only adds to the possibility of complications/infections that are…
