Avastin - new data
I am wondering if anyone on Avastin currently had any change in their regimen due to the newly released information. For anyone who doesn't know: WASHINGTON — U.S. government health advisers say unanimously that a follow-up study of the Roche drug Avastin failed to show meaningful benefits for breast cancer patients. A…

God's Perspective
One of our "older and seasoned" ladies of my Thursday Bible study sent this to me and I wanted to share it with each of you. The Power for Living today had a heart touching story of the worship pastor, Lyndon Plett, whose mother was murdered when he was only five. His father & step mother were killed in an accident when he…

Premeds in port(benedryl - almost put me to sleep, decadron - gives me a stuffy nose for about 1/2 hour!, and pecid) went fine. First time for pepcid. Surgery went well
I had my debulking surgery on 6/21/10 and it went well. My surgeon said he removed 95% of the cancer. I had a complete hysterectomy with omentum and apendix also removed. I have been home for three weeks. I did not expect to be in such pain for so long. I had a caesarian in 1980 and gall bladder removed in 1990 and feel I…

Just wanted to share
Hi,Ladies. I just wanted to share with you something I have done to promote awareness for this dreaded disease. I recently ordered 200, individually wrapped, teal silicone bracelets (the company was offering 100 free bracelets for every 100 ordered). Each bracelet has the words, "Ovarian/PPC Awareness" on it. In addition,…

I'm grouchy......
I don't know if it's just my advancing age, or the risiaual aftermath of chemo, or the side effects of the Taxol maintenance, or maybe just the stress of the whole cancer experience, but I find that I have zero tolerance for almost anyone. My entire family gets on my nerves, it seems. I have never been a door-slammer, but…

Mother Joan has Questions
Mom received her Doxil late Wednesday afternoon and she was very tired Thursday and was able to do what she had to do. Today (Saturday) she says she wasn't even up for taking the dog for a walk. Today she's been a bump on the log...she wants to know how long this will last. Secondly, she has not had any mouth sores, no…

Here I was kicking and screaming about not being able to get Carbo anymore due to an allergic reaction and I find out my ca125 only dropped one point after my second infusion. BUMMER. I was hoping it would have made more of an impact than that. It had dropped 8 points after my first infusion. I just completed my first…

Anyone on Doxil?
I just came across this.....a study that indicates Prozac taken in conjunction with Doxil can boost the effectiveness of the chemo drug. Since the doctors often push antidepressants on us anyway, why not ask for Prozac if you are prescribed Doxil treatment?…

Choosing NOT to treat
I decided decades ago, after watching several generations of women die of cancer, that I would not be treated when (not if) I developed cancer. That decision has never wavered; what I've seen since has made me more determined and content with my choice. So here I am. But it turns out that doctors don't particularly…

Ringing the bell
My Mom was diagnosed with stage 3a ovarian cancer in February of this year. She had surgery at the end of Feb and the Dr's said they got all of the cancer. She finished her last, 6th, treatment today. My sis just sent me a pic of her "ringing the bell" before she left MD Anderson. She does go back in a month to have her…

My little alien....
Saw my gyn/oncologist and got my (I think) number 5 maintenance (aka consolidation) chemo. I introduced him to my little alien - the abdominal hernia that was recently diagnosed by my PCP. My PCP referred me to a surgeon - a referral I ignored until I could ask my oncologist if I could have the surgery without interrupting…

Support NOCC and maybe President Obama, A. Jolie, others will eventually notice
I've read several of the statements about celebrities and their link to our cancer and unfortunately what seems to be a lack of involvement. Obviously we can't connect to those people personally but we can help suppport NOCC. If you go to the website you can find out how to contact your state rep/senators to help pass…

Out of breath when I walk
Anybody else experience this? Ever since I started Taxotere/Avastin I am so out of breath. My oncologist ordered a lot of cardiac test and it's not my heart. It seems that even when I just get up and walk a little distance I get out of breath. Although when I go swimming it doesn't seem to affect me. What gives? I will…
