So many here have lost husbands recently and some have loved ones that are now in hospice care. My heart goes out to them and to all their caregivers and families. It's a rough time for so many -…

Vomiting
The title of this post should get a lot of attention. My hubby, Buzz, just completed treatment. A troublesome problem he is having now is vomiting after gagging on all that thick mucus. This happens about 1 or 2 times a day. The antinausea meds don't work for this problem. He has a tube feeding which runs at night with 1…

Sepsis
Anyone have any experience with this during treatment? If so, would appreciate some info. Some may remember my Cousin. Says he's got laryngeal, and swallowing problems was what first tipped him off a couple years ago. He's gone thru 3 chemos the first 9 weeks (Cisplatin), and now has been going thru the rads with…

neck nerves
I'm 10 years post treatment and 3 months ago my neck is sore and hurts. I have a hard time looking up and I'm feeling the pain a little in my shoulders and upper arms and upper back. Has anyone else had any late effects from chemo or radiation? I know that is probably what it is just wondering if anyone else has…

Good Morning All: I am now into Day 4 of snow and icebound captivity! I live in Lawrenceville, GA outside of Atlanta and we received about 6 inches of snow on Sunday night and then the ice came in on Monday. My boys have not been out all week so far (I do have pee-pee pads for them). Sammy the dachshund is too little and…

Parotid Tumor - What the heck are "Basal Cells"?
Just got the call from my surgeon's nurse that my biopsy was positive for malignancy two hours ago. Just found this site about 15 minutes ago. I have a 1.5 cm tumor on my Parotid gland. I have a Parotidectomy and Neck Dissection set for three weeks. (I can hardly wait. Yay!) All I know so far from what the nurse said on…

Is my doctor a jerk or am I?
mwellsg here. Found out Friday over the phone I have a fairly serious lump in the throat that has spread to my lymph nodes and who knows where else. You guys were a lot of help getting me focused and ready to fight this thing. But I have yet to talk to or see my doctor; and after 3 attempts, I can't reach him. I admit we…

Finished treatment
Yesterday was cause for celebration. Buzz received his last chemo and radiation treatments yesterday!!!!! It has been nearly 4 months although it seems like 6. When we started, I wondered if we could get through the treatment but reading posts on this forum gave me the confidence to soldier on. Buzz is 100% tube fed so the…

thickening of the cheek tissue and teeth
Lately I have been noticing that my cheeks have gotten thicker on the inside. They come to rest right on the teeth which causes irritation to the mouth lining and sometimes small sores. I assume this is related to the radiation. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this. I have also noticed that my incisors now rest…

When will I get my dad back??-UPDATE
My dad was diagnosed with Tonsil Cancer in the middle of November right after having his tonsils removed at the beginning of November. He had a large mass on the right side of his neck which he ignored until it was large enough that we could visually see it by looking at hime (you can even see it in my profile picture.) He…

My husband died tonight
It happened so fast....I knew he was going downhill but I figured it would be a long drawn out process. I'm not sure what happened. I brought a load of laundry up to the bedroom and he wasn't in his bed. I figured he was in the bathroom and i could hear a gurgling noise. but I hear that all the time when he is trying to…

Tongue Cancer Patient / Saying Hello
Hello everyone! I (like many others I'm sure), found this website / forum while doing some research on my somewhat recent cancer diagnosis and treatment. I figured I would join and share my story, also to try and connect with other individuals that have or may be going through the same or a similar experience to mine.…

Amazing folks on this board!
You guys are ALL amazing folks. The support I have received from you all since diagnosis and throughout treatment was what sustained me. I could NOT have done this without you. And, I must say, the advice given below, to MWELLSG who was just diagnosed, is the best I have read so far. Keep up the good work, everyone! We…

I just found out I have cancer
I learned about it over the phone. They say I have a suspicious lump at the back of my tongue but the cancer cells were found in my lymph nodes and they made that sound like its pretty bad. I have not told my wife or anyone else. I have no idea what the treatments are going to do to me. I have no idea if I can beat this or…

esophageal spasms?
Has anyone else had this? It appears that if I am eating something too hot, too cold or too fast, I get terrible pain in the esophageal area, where you would have heartburn, but more of a cramping feeling. I have to stop eating for about a half hour and then try again, really weird feeling? Any thoughts? Thanks Stacey

18 Month Check Up
The doctor was very pleased with my progress. He wants me to come back in 6 months. He says that will be about it for appointments (he looks so happy to see me). I still have some side effects but feel very blessed with the new normal. I have been out cross country skiing, out with our friends and working on my house. I…

I Lost My Husband Today
The battle is over and the beast thinks it won. No way. It took my husband's body today but it will never take his spirit or mine. Paul crossed over late this afternoon peacefully at the hospice center. His decline was so rapid it seemed like it was in the blink of an eye. We had such a great Christmas. A good memory. His…

"Button" style Peg vs regular peg tube
Hubby, Buzz, is scheduled to have his peg changed on the 17th. His last radiation is January 10. He is 100% tube fed and it will take time (based on all of the posts) to return to normal eating. Would the button-style peg be better than the traditional one? Would like feedback from those of you who have or have had the…

Just came from the pain management specialist. Jim's pain has been uncontrolled using duragesic patches, hydrocodone and, recently, neurontin. The doctor wants to perform a superficial plexus nerve block. This follows his treatment for a hypopharyngeal tumor. Anyone have any experience with this?
