One Year Later
I just had my one year later colonoscopy. I am so happy to report that it looked good and the one small polyp they did remove, a type called hyperplastic, was benign and it does not have the tendency to be cancerous. I finally feel like I can breath a little easier. I still see my onc every three months and will probably…

Something to Keep the Spirits up again.....
44 things that you should do and think about........ 1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good. 2. When in doubt, just take the next small step. 3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone. 4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch. 5. Pay off your credit cards…

Feeling sad and stressed
It is coming up on the 1 year anniversary of my diagnosis. It is hard to not relive it in my head. Did anyone else experience this? I made my first ever appointment with a therapist. My Onc. had given my her card, I guess she deals with a lot of cancer patients. When I talked to her on the phone she did say that most…

Probiotics question.
Hi all. I started taking a probiotic almost 2 weeks ago. So far, I am very pleased with the results. Seems to have firmed things up and the frequency has slowed a bit. Unfortunately, the side effects have been gas and gas pain. Does anyone take anything for these side effects? Or do you even get the gas? Does it get…

Well, my husband was able to get the PET scan after radioactive shot number 2. I would love some help interpreting the results: A photopenic defect is identified in the right hepatic lob with a rim of hypermetabolism corresponding to a hypodense mass on the low-dose CT scan measuring 5 x 6.6 cm in size. Intensity of…

Cold.... So cold answer
I talked to my dr on Monday about getting "so Cold" that I just shake. He thinks it's just my body reacting to the Oxy (Chemo). Wants me to check temp before hot bath then again a 1/2 hour after the hot bath and start a log for him. But he thinks it's my body fighting to get well. Kinda of like when you have the flu. He…

Neuropathy
I was wondering if anyone that has finished folfox treatment has tried Alpha Lipoic Acid. It is an essential amino acid and an antioxident so those of us who are currently taking chemo might not be able to use it. My brother is a diabetic and has taken this for his neuropathy and it really helped him. The information that…

Found a lump
I found a lump in my lower abdomen area, left side about 2 inches from my navel. Noticed it while in the shower. I am stage III, had resection in Aug 07, six month chemo (Folfox). Had a CT scan in September and all was clear. I called in to my oncologist at MD Anderson and waiting for the nurse to call me back. The surgeon…

Wait to hear it from the horses mouth...
So, never take the word of a pain managment doctor over that of your oncologist. I won't do a "he said, she said" thing but I thought things were stable. He did say there was some growth on the one but his idea of what's a problem and her (onc) idea is different. She's the boss lady. So I am starting TODAY with the double…

Only 2nd day of treatment
Well, it's only the 2nd day of treatment (radiation and oral Xeloda after transanal excision for stage I, T2 rectal cancer) and surprised at how crappy I feel. Nausea, tired. When I had seen the oncologist prior to this, it sounded like this dosage of Xeloda (500 mg, 3 pills, twice daily) was not a big deal. I force myself…

CT Results
I had my CT done on Friday and got the results yesterday. I want to call it good news. No new tumors found (good news), Lymph nodes around my aorta have less cancer, but still some cancer (OK news), liver tumor that was 11cm X 9cm at diagnosis have shrunk to half the size (good news), can't have liver resection due to the…

What are the options besides Folfox & Folfiri (and Avastin) if KRAS-mutant?
My mom is Stage IV dx June 09 with mets to the liver, and did 4 treatments of Folfox (and Avastin some of the time) before finding that it was only keeping things stable & was not shrinking anything. She is currently on Folfiri and will have her first followup scan to look at its effects in a few weeks. She also just found…

Life's cruel irony
My former neighbor Viktoria was struck and killed while crossing the street early this morning. She refused a ride home from her intoxicated friend Toli.
