Guess I jumped the gun a bit
Last week my pain level after my mastectomy on 8/10 was pretty minimal. Then, the pain/numbing medicine ball with catheter finished and I was told to pull out the catheter--I'm expected a couple of inches. Silly me--I'm pulling, pulling, pulling--12 inches came out of my chest! Luckily, it didn't hurt, but they could have…

just an update...
Yesterday was the first dose of navelbene, everything went smoothly with the infusion. I waited longer for them to mix the meds than it took for the actual drip. I started noticing the metallic taste before we left, so it's plastic utensils for me. That, a few minutes of mild nausea, and a little diarrhea are the only SE's…

Lumpectomy vs. Mastectomy
Hi. I was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal breast cancer at the end of June. I had a lumpectomy about 4 weeks ago. My tumor was only .7 cm and the nodes that were removed were clean. I am Estrogen and Prog. positive, and HER-2 negative. BRCA test was negative. Oncotype was a 14. My onco said that I will not need chemo, but…

~Gas up the ol' pink bus please~
Tomorrow I go in for my annual mammogram on the right healthy side. I am half expecting the usual "we need a few closer images" (15 more times)....but secretly am hoping they get the results much smoother this time. No shadows, no areas of concern or changes. My prayer is always that God would reveal anything that needs to…

This is not my idea of living.
Last Thursday I received my second infusion of Ixempra and started a second cycle of Xeloda. Over the weekend I developed an infection in my mouth (oral thrush) and yesterday I got a prescription called Nystatin to swish and swallow four times a day. Thankfully it doesn't taste too bad but when I swallow, it feels more…

Joke of the Day .. Things MOM Would 'never say'
Things Mom Would Never Say "How on earth can you see the TV sitting so far back?" "Yeah, I used to skip school a lot, too" "Just leave all the lights on ... it makes the house look more cheery" "Let me smell that shirt -- Yeah, it's good for another week" "Go ahead and keep that stray dog, honey. I'll be glad to feed and…

Made it through the pet scan barely.....
Today I went for my pet scan. The last week I have been a hot mess. I am pretty much straight on, but for about 2 weeks I have had trouble sleeping. I weaned off the methadone and Ativan. Could fall asleep, but it lasted less than an hour. Couldn't shut my mind down, with all the good news I have received not to…

Does the fear go away.
Hello everyone. Well this is my first post. I consider myself to be a newbe to all of this. I was diagnosed on July 11, 2011. I have stage one with her +. I did my six weeks of radiation and I did six months of Herceptin. I was suppose to do a year but my body couldn't take any more. My oncologist told me it was becoming…

Things I did not expect!
Hi Ladies, I am now out 5 months from my second surgery and seem to be cancer-free. That makes me really happy. The only down sides I'm feeling are: I still do not have all of my stamina back. Since I work physically, that is a bummer. My left shoulder got pretty damaged during the second surgery - I guess because they had…

Mastectomy girls--I have a couple of questions
I'm a week and 2 days post-op. The first few days went really well as far as pain was concerned because I was pretty much totally numb in the breast area, ribs on that side and around toward the back. However, now the numbness is wearing off and I have to say--I had quite a bit of pain yesterday and today. My ribs below my…

complications with Neuropathy
Hello Ladies, I am so thankful for this forum. I am triple negative Grade 3 stage 2a. I was just told by my oncologist that they may have to pull the plug on the last two Taxol's due to neuropathy of my hands and feet. It is mild to moderate, but he said it could be permanent if we continue. Please....if anyone has run…

Saline vs silicone
I had my exchange surgery 3 weeks ago. I am not thrilled with the results. I have 800 cc high profile Mentors. I am 5"9 and large framed. I am a little over weight at the moment. I haven't weighed myself since my bilateral mastectomy, but I have gained a few pounds since this all started. To say the least. I will lose it.…

State Laws Relating to Breast Cancer
I came across this informative file all about state laws relating to breast cancer and thought it might be useful or at least an interesting read! Oh and it's authored by the CDC (Center for Disease Control) =) However, it is a pdf file: http://www.cdc.gov/cancer/breast/pdf/BCLaws.pdf Apparently this is as updated as the…
