Palliative care, kill or cure?
I have a sad story to share with you from my family in England, but my concern is if the same practice may exist here in the US. My sister in law had both breast removed some 10 years ago and was give the "all clear" until about 9 months ago, when her symptoms returned. Despite trips to Germany for supposed "wonder…

OT Just back from Idaho; home in time for a hurricane
OK, first few days in Idaho, we couldn't go outdoors because of smoke from the southern fires. Finally, a nice rain, a cooling and beautiful clear weather. I really relaxed and enjoyed myself and the mountains were so lovely. I felt my spirit renewed. But now I'm heading home and to work just in time for Isaac. My relief…

I Miss My Friends
Early on I felt like I had a lot of support from friends and family. Now that I'm almost 5 months into this diagnosis and nearing the end of treatment, my doorbell has stopped ringing, my phone is quiet, my e-mail is empty. It's as if everyone went on vacation at the same time! I know it's the end of summer and people have…

newly diagnosed and recovering from double mastectomy 36 years old
So I am 36 and felt a bump. IDC they tell me. I had a breast augmentation in nov 2011 and now this. They said it may have pushed my tissue forward and made it easier to feel. so I just filled out my profile and it felt good to actually write for awhile about all this. It has been very scary and I'm so very angry,…

No treatment except mastectomy...
I'd like some HONEST answers from you please. Do you ladies believe ... honestly believe ... that if you don't have chemo, or whatever other treatment the oncologists suggest, that you will die. Even if after your mastectomies they can find no trace left of cancer.....

Femara vs Arimidex
Anyone switch from Femara to Arimidex with less side effects ? I've got hair loss, insomnia, joint pain, weight gain and severe sweating from Femara, but doctor thinks I'll have the same ones if I switch to Arimidex, but I think I'd like to try !!!

Dancing with NED, except for having osteoporosis...
Although I am extremely happy to report NED on my 3rd year mammogram, chest x-ray and blood work, I am now diagnosed as having osteoporosis. Dr. is quick to suggest IV infusion of Reclast or monthly Actonel pills. Since I have about every side effect that Femara can offer, I am of course reluctant to try these drugs and…

BRCA2
I have not been diagnosed with cancer but the rep at the ACS number encouraged me to post here. My mother died of breast cancer (diagnosed at 32, died at 45) and several women in her family had it. I am 33 and got myself tested for the gene this summer. On Tuesday I found out that I am positive for BRCA2. I was expecting…

Sorry girls...one week out from last chemo and
in a stinkin' bad mood. My mouth is better but still hurts and can't taste food. I am SICK SICK SICK of chemo! I am tired of being sick and fatigued and boring. I don't go anywhere because I CAN"T. I can't plan any vacation to get relief because it is impossible to plan even an hour ahead. I am broke from the hospital…

What Next?
I just noticed that the site, What Next, is offered by the American Cancer Society. I don't know how long it has been around, but, was wondering if anyone here participates in that site and if you like it.

Blue Ribbon for a Pink Ribbon
Yup - I got a blue ribbon at the county fair that's going on now, for the tattted Pink Ribbon I entered (made from my own design/pattern). Was suprised as I really didn't think it was that good and primarily put it in because last year there had been no tatting entered and all the other pieces I still have had already been…

Can we post/upload a video?
I recorded my radiation therapy and thought maybe it might be helpful to those just starting out to see what actually happens during a session. I know it sure would've been far less stressful for me if I could've seen a session beforehand. I guess I'm just one of those people that you could tell me all day long but until I…

that's when I just (long funny-ish story!)
Since my oncologist refuses to prescribe ANY meds for my getting-worse-everyday hip pain I went to my primary care. She did give me a script for the pain but it doesn't even begin to take the edge off the pain. She suggested some therapy and how using a tens(sp?) unit might help. Sounded promising enough...my bad! So,…

Still crocheting hats for our chemo clinics
I visited my old job today and asked my friend Sherlyn if she needed any more hats. She sells some of them for me to help with my yarn expenses. She told me that she did not need any yet but that she could use some in kid sizes. I asked her why. Turns out a lady in the next office was trying to find a hat to fit her 4 year…

Off to do "Mom things"
Some of you know, I've been on a roller coaster with my daughter's health for about 6 weeks. July 7 she had a uterine ablation for constant bleeding and cramping. It was supposed to fix things. I flew to Las Vegas to take care of her and the grands. She was absolutely fine - until I got back to Sacramento. Then she…

Reflection
I sit here and reflect upon this time last year when I learned I had breast cancer. Hearing the word cancer .... what an awful, scary, horrible word to hear! I remember feeling this lump while in bed. Everyone in the house was asleep. Except for me. My daughter and son in law had just flown in from Israel to spend a few…
