I am 60yr's. old with stage 3 breast cancer, & going through chemo at the moment. My problem is what to do with my 30yr old daughter, and 32yr old son. They aren't handling this well at all. My daughter is being very brave, & strong around me, but when she's away she is falling apart. She & I are so close, that one time we…

Private Oncologist vs Those Biggie Cancer Centers??
Hi, I'm brand new to these boards but have read lots of good advice for about two months now. Does anybody see an advantage for seeking care from one of those big cancer centers--you know the ones: Cancer Centers Of America, M.D. Anderson, Farber, etc. Most of the cancer care that I have seen on these boards are the usual:…

milk thistle and liver function during chemo
For what it is worth, I thought I would share in a seperate post. It appears that milk thistle can help protect the liver during chemotherapy. I found the paper that was written on the study that was done with children with leukemia, that is those who took milk thistle were able to tolerate higher doses of chemo than the…

New meds now, and rads
This past year with stage 4 bc has been fairly easy for me. Taking Femara daily, and Zometa once a month. Mets to bone, but no pain. Good appetite, no unexplained weight loss, lots of energy. Doctor was so pleased he put me on a quarterly schedule. However, the tumor in my upper left arm has been problematic from the…

If I Can Do it, You Can Do it - Yeah, I Did It!
Just wanted to let everyone know I just finished my 12 weeks of chemo Wednesday. I had to crawl across the finish line but I did it. It's been rough and I have to admit it there were times I did think about quitting but I knew quitting was not really an option. I dreaded chemo from the time I was dxed almost a year ago in…

Taxol and the rest of the hair?
Through the AC, Donna still has some fuzz; much thinner at the sides and neck; a little bit more on the crown, all of which will probably continue to get thinner these next two weeks, but is it the Taxol that makes the rest come out until you have that smooth as a baby's bottom hairdo? Has anyone here made it through Taxol…

I want to slap someone!
New development for me. I have always been very easy going and have made allowances for others. But lately I want to smack people. Was at the farmer's market and ran into a friend the woman with her made the comment that her neighbor had died of breast cancer. Normally I would just ignore a stupid comment like that but I…

Constant Coughing
Has anyone had a constant, annoying cough that has lasted over a week? I talked with the nurse and since I'm not running a fever she thought I should contact my family doctor and it is not a side-effect from chemo. I have one treatment left in a few weeks then it's off to radiation. Any suggestion on how to stop the cough.…

I am either a Crazed Optimist or a Delusional Lunatic, but I'm doing it anyway!!!
So, Kindred Spirits~ many of you know that after an almost 8 year clean and clear run, I am battling the beast again with mets to my liver, spine, lining of my lung and lymphnodes. I am responding to treatment, and remain upbeat and taking it and Life in stride. I mean, really~ what else is there to do?! So,I registered to…

Radiation Graduate
Today I finished Radiation am happy. No more going to the everyday. The people there were so nice. It will seem weird not having to be somewhere for treatment. But I'm not sure what normal is anymore since finding out I had the beast. Still new to this site.

Joke of the day ...
Late one night a mugger wearing a ski mask jumped into a path of a well-dressed man and stuck a gun in his ribs "give me your money," he demanded. Indignant, the affluent man replied, "you can't do this – I am a United States congressman!" "In that case," replied the mugger, "give me MY money." Vicki Sam

Hello - I have some questions I hope someone can answer for me. I had my first mammogram ever 2 weeks ago. They called me back in for a second mammogram... that turned into three more mammograms and an ultra sound. My doctor just called yesterday to say that I need to have lumpectomy. I was so suprised that I didnt know…

What is looked for in bloodwork?
I had my routine Onc visit today and had bloodwork done to look for cancer. I forgot the name of the test. (imagine that) It wasn't a CBC. Something with an M. It measures liver function or something with the liver. How is cancer detected in the blood? I'll know next week. And he said I won't be getting anymore petscans,…

Hot flashes - How Long?
I'm 6 months out of chemo and have been on tamoxifen for 5 months. Blood tests show that I'm in menopause - but I'm still having killer hot flashes. Can anybody tell me how long the hot flashes lasted with tamoxifen? My onc says they'll go away in "awhile" and I know it's probably pretty individual but it would be nice to…

Anxiety is getting the better of me
I start chemo TC next Tuesday and think I'm prepared for whatever side effect I might have but are we ever really prepared? I already have pre-existing conditions which may make side effects worse. I've been having dreams about my bilateral mastectomy incisions splitting open and getting an infection like I did 3 years ago…

TNBC survivor rate
Can anyone please help me with some websites that provide some positive numbers. My wife is always on the internet checking for new treatments and clinical trials, but the down side to that is she states to me how low the survivor rate is for TNBC and I don't know what to say to her when she does this. I remind her of the…
