on the journey but no sense of direction
So I was diagnosed on 2/17 stage 4, two lumps in my right breast, lymph node involvement and several plaques on the lining of my right lung that caused a plueral effusion to fill the space between the linings of the lung with fluid. I had two 'taps' each about 2 liters, about a week apart and then started on the four…

I would like a reduction in the so called healthy one..Is that possible? I don't want any more surgery, but I may have to do it to be evened up.... I…

Chemo induced menopause or not.......
Hi everyone, I have been meaning to pose this question for a long time but never got around to it. I had my last period after my second treatment of Adriamycin/Cytoxan. That was July 2006. I had a bit of spotting six months after that but since then nothing. However, according to my bloodwork I am still premenopausal.…

Mild pain and discomfort @ mast. site
I had my mastectomy 5/22/08 and since then the incision and armpit areas have been basically numb. Recently however there is discomfort and some mild pain-both with arm movement and by touching the area. I mentioned this to my onc on Monday- had a CT on Tuesday and yesterday the nurse read the results to me over the phone.…

How did you react to the "booster" radiation to the tumor site?
I am getting close to where they stop giving radiation to the large area and start giving me 12 of what they call "booster" treatments to the tumor site. Has anyone had this? Did it burn you worse? I am not burnt yet, but, I am pink after 19 treatments. I would appreciate any answers. Thanks!

grapefruit juice and aromatase inhibitors
I never thought much about the role of diet in breast cancer, but I have recently learned that grapefruit juice is known to interfere with many medications. I'm thinking of cutting out my daily morning drink of the stuff just to be safe, but does anyone know if grapefruit juice is safe to drink when you're on AIs? Ohilly

why do I know more than my doctors about AI side effects
I find it disturbing that I seem to know more than my doctors about the side effects of aromatase inhibitors. Most of you know my story: that my hair was growing back thin for months and months after chemo. Finally I went to a dermatologist who told me I had underlying female pattern baldness that was 'unmasked' or…

One more time/what happens when you stop AIs
No one responded to my post about this, so I'll try again: I've only been taking Femara, but I'm already wondering: so what happens in 5 or 10 years (new research shows we might have to be on this stuff longer) when we stop taking our aromatase inhibitors? Does all the estrogen come back and then put us at risk? Do the…

Hoppy Bunny Day!
I do hope that Hoppy Bunny Day is politically correct enough for as diverse a group of women and men as we are! For whatever reason we are celebrating ( or not!) I simply want to take the time to say how much I am awed by each one of you. Whether newly diagnosed, depressed, scared, halfway through treatment, finishing up~…

question/what happens when stop taking AIs?
I have not asked my oncologist this yet, but maybe someone knows: so what happens when you stop taking aromatase inhibitors in 5 years (or it's probably going to be 10 years with recent research). I mean, how do they keep the estrogen out of your body, and as far as side effects, do they all go away? If anyone knows,…

Metabolize test for Tamoxifen? What is that?
I have read on here somewhere where some of you talked about a test to take to see if tamoxifen would work on you or something? What is the test? I haven't heard of this, nor, have I been told about it from my oncologist. thanks!

You are all strong and brave!
I just wanted to tell you all how strong and brave you are! Every time I come back to this discussion group and read all of your input,it is an emotional and inspiring time. Question for sisters with mastectomies
I don't know if this is normal or not - I go to back to my surgeon in a couple days... I have a long lump below half my incision and it runs to the end of my incision and up toward my armpit. It is the biggest at the end of my incision. I had a R mast with 16 lymph nodes taken. I thought It would just be flat there, like…

Hans update #2
Procedure went well. Patient was a pain in the neck (read lower body part). Glad to have survived it. The anesthesiologist is a dear friend of both of us, and he was there, not because the procedure warranted it, but because we both were frightened. He talked to Hans thru the entire thing. It was a great comfort. He now…

More about radiation
I told my radiology technicians that it seems to me radiation works "bass-ackwards." The more they cook me, the rarer I look! They were amused and said they hadn't heard it expressed quite like that before! Two more treatments for me--Good Friday really will be a GOOD Friday for me this year! Happy Easter to everyone.
