"Anal cancer, part deux." Part 2.
The past --- I was treated for anal cancer in 2014 - 30 radiation doses and 2 boluses of mitomycin & 5-FU via medi-port on day 1 and what would have been day 28 if I'd been able to go straight through. I was very sick and had a lot of gaps in treatment both because of the radiation and the neutropenic fevers. I was…

Honestly...Should Have Been Dead By Now...Anal Cancer
If it wasnt for the treatment. My time was up but medicine has kept me going with complications. My Final Destination of sorts. Should have passed on at 56 Naturally. It was my time to die but treatment has kept me alive. Now with new chest pains when I swallow or breath...an Anal Fistula and a Leg Blood Clot.…

In recent remission, but symptoms remain
Think my surgeon was surprised when sigmoidoscopy showed no evidence of cancer last month! Of course, I was thrilled, but still worried. She had been telling me about how she’d already asked surgeons at MD Anderson and elsewhere whether her patient (me) would be better off with permanent colostomy or might do as well with…

Set Free
Sending loving kindness to everyone at this discussion board: I'm happy to report that I was recently "set free" by my Oncologists. At least that is what he calls it: being "set free". And, oh, does freedom feel good. Once I got through the first year after treatment for stage II anal cancer, the remaining four years went…

What to expect with no treatment
Hi everyone, I am new to this discussion group. Last November my husband was diagnosed with cancer of the anal canal. He was so bad that they had to do a colostomy right away so that he could eliminate. He had lost weight and was down to 99 lbs. He had to have 2 operations as the first one gave him peritonitis. He also has…

HyperBaric Oxygen Therapy for radiation burn
Hello, I completed 6 weeks of radiation treatment along with 6 weeks chemotherapy (2 infusions day 1 & 28 then daily doses of Xeloda) which ended December 2017. The radiation burn started quickly around week 2 or 3. I am still experiencing constant burning when peeing and having BMs. My specialists have been recommended…

Sorry for poo song
If it offends anyone, I am sorry. I thought it was funny, because pooing or not pooing is so important now. I just found out I am 4 years cancer free, after a stage 3a diagnosis in May 2014. Even though there is " No Evidence of Disease" IN my body, there's plenty of evidence that it went through hell and back. Still have…

Has anyone ever had a Papillae?
Hi everyone! On my last colonoscopy, three months ago, the notes said that a papillae was found, and the GI said it wasn't anything to worry about and was normal. I had a digital exam yesterday and the oncologist felt it, and said he thought it was the same thing since it was in the same place as described in the notes.…

What to expect at one month follow up?
Hi, my dad finished his 5 and a half week of chemo-radiotherapy on July 11th. Tommorrow is his first follow up appointment. The doctor advised it is still early for a PET/MRI scan and its still too early to tell how well my dad is doing in terms of tumor treatment. His tumor was more than 5cm at time of diagnosis and his…

Pelvic Fractures
Summer of 2016 I was treated for anal cancer. (T1 NO MO---I was lucky.) I haven’t posted before, but I certainly used the info on this site many times. Thank you so much! I was 76 during treatment and already had mild osteoporosis. Since treatment I’ve had several, pelvic fractures but none since early 2017. For those of…

My Anal Cancer Experience
Hello fellow anal cancer patients! When I was first diagnosed I visited this forum many times. Although I never posted anything, I gained much knowledge and felt a great deal of support. Now I want to relate my experience with the hope that someone else who is facing the same thing will benefit as I did. (As a point of…

Lung biopsy today...
Hi, So I survived my broncoscopy to gather a lung biopsy today and while I don't like being put out or sedated, it all went quite well. I have a bit of a sore throat and am tired now, but otherwise feeling fine. The nurse said that the initial pathology does confirm an anal met as we had suspected, but that my doctor would…

Colonoscopy story sad but funny
For the last 6 or so months I've had increasing and often unbearable right side lower abdominal pain. Nothing shows up on scans etc so at the urging of my oncologist and colorectal doctor I submitted to a colonoscopy thinking it might reveal what doesn't show up on scans. I met with a nice young gastrointestinal doctor and…

Let The Countdown Begin!
I was diagnosed with anal cancer on June 18, 2008 and finished up my chemo/radiation on September 9, 2008. I have experienced a lot since then, some good, some not so good. I rejoiced and celebrated when I reached the 5-year mark in 2013. I remember being so happy to be alive and relatively well, despite a few of those…

PICC line
Is a Picc line painful? Someone told me that it was and that I should ask for a Port. Is a PICC line more painful than a port, or is it painful if you have had a PICC line?

Long-Time Survivor Question
Hi. Long-time survivor (6 years) checking in. Just wondering if any other long-timers have issues with skin irritations with the areas where your skin received the radiation and what you do about it. I like to swim but even salt water pools seem to irritate those areas if I go more than 3 - 4 times a week. Don't see much…
