Edometrial Cancer
I was just diagnosed today with Endometrial Cancer. I have an appointment w/ an gyn oncologsit early next week. My fear is this. I do not want a hysterectomy. Is there anyway around it? I have read they can do surgery and remove the area and tissue around it. Of course if it is early. I have so much information to process…

Does too much sugar consumption lead to cancer or cancer growth?
Friends, I know there has been a lot published recently about how bad sugar is for the body, causing inflammation and such. The pet scans use radioactive glucose which lights up the areas that are cancerous-as I read cancer is rapidly dividing and therefore needs a lot of sugar? So, in conclusion does that mean too much…

Doxil/Cisplatin for Second recurrence
After CA 125 doubling (50 to 100),I just got results of PET scan and as suspected (CA 125 has been reliable indicator for me) and this time it is around the margins of my lungs - 4 to 5 small tumors.Brief summary: hysterectomy/oopharectomy 12/08 followed by 2 rounds of carboplatin/taxol sandwiched with 30 external…

Postmenopausal bleeding and need for D&C
Late on Thanksgiving Eve, my good friend and caregiver, Marie, experienced a one-time fairly heavy post-menopausal bleed. We were out of town, at a friend's house in Northampton, MA, and were a bit freaked out. Until the early morning hours, we were in the emergency room of the local hospital, where Marie had a pelvic exam…

Maggie
Maggie, Good luck with the new CA125 test, and the scans. Just remember, my doc said sometimes scans too can be misleading after all of the surgery we have had. And you were sick, so perhaps that was a factor in your CA125 spike. I am sending positive and healing thoughts your way. Cindy

Karen--another question for you about platelets
Karen, Hi there and happy holidays! I recall that you mentioned your platelets went as low as 23,000 (I think I am remembering that correctly)after your 5th chemo, and that you stopped after the 5th chemo because of the drop in counts as per your doctor's recommendations. Well, as I have posted, I am dealing with the very…

I am the low platelet girl
Friends, Well, my platelets are still super low. But Monday and Tuesday they stayed the same at 21,000. My oncologist decided rather than having me come in in a day or so,as we have been doing for the last week, we will wait to have another blood test until Monday. He feels they won't drop much more. My last 6th chemo was…

a timely and inspiring quote for thanksgiving or anytime, really.
sisters: "to hope is to gamble. it's to bet on the future, on your desires, on the possibility that an open heart and uncertainty are better than gloom and safety. to hope is dangerous, and yet it is the opposite of fear, for to live is to risk...to hope is to give yourself to the future, and that commitment to the future…

Rectal or Colon Spasms (very painful!!!)
It has been about one year since I finished treatment. I had taxol and carbo and radiation both external and brachytherapy internally. Last December shortly before my last chemo I had my first "attack" of what I would describe as having a rectal spasm or colon spasm. The pain starts out tolerable and then escalates to…

Ct scan results
Hello again, I called the doc's this morning to get the results of my recent ct scan and to my big, big surprise it came back good. I am so confused because the doc told me that the dye from the ct scan would pick up any tumors. Well it didn't show any in the pelvic area so the biopsy I got the other day is…

Platelets still dropping from 25,000 down to 23,000-another blood test tomorrow
Friends, Well, had another bloodtest today. My platelets dropped again since Saturday when they were 25,000 down to 23,000 today on Monday. My white count is also low but went up from 1.1 to 1.2 today. I am guess neutophils probably went from 600 to 700 as they usually are equal with the white-but that number was not back…

Queston for Karen
Karen, Hi. How long did it take for your platelets to recover from 23,000 back when you had the issue? Would your oncologist have transfused you if it dropped any lower? Are you remaining in NED? It sounds like you are....I am so happy for you. Hugs, Cindy

Questions for Susafina and Ro10
Friends, Susafina, you mentioned your medical team advised you not to ride stationary bike with platelet count below 50,000. That is interesting. My oncologist's nurse said it was ok, but I kind of wondered if maybe that is too much activity and if I should stop. I do 30 minutes on the lowest setting. Did you team mention…

Saturday's blood test platelets stayed at 25,000, so next bloodtest Monday
Friends, Thank you for all of the advice about platelets. It makes me very nervous being so low, and I am afraid I will drop lower as in one of my later chemos I kept dropping until the 5th week after chemo. I sure hope this time is not the same. And that time I had only dropped at the lowest to 69,000. I am getting the…
