Advanced Sling Surgery
I have been advised to consider the Advanced Sling Surgery to, hopefully, eliminate an incontinence problem I have had since RRP approximately 4 1/2 years ago. I currently use 2 pads/24 hours (a good day and most days). Everything seems to be working fine otherwise. Does anyone have any suggestions or comments? The surgeon…

abnormal cells & swollen lymph nodes, not due to prostate cancer?
My husband just had a pet scan to determine what the abnormal cells and 4 swollen lymph nodes are in his lungs. We met with the doctor and were told that a finger biopsy would have to be done on the lymph nodes to determine exactly what's going on,, which will be done next week. He said that it did not seem that the tumors…

Encouraging News - New Biomarker for Prostate Cancer
Wanted to pass along this recent article on a new biomarker for agressive prostate cancer. The biomarker identified is serum glutamate and evidently the article implies that the glutamate receptor is overexpressed in primary and metastaic prostate cancer. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2012/10/121023133759.htm For…

Green Tea
My first biopsy was done in 1998 when my psa was elevated to 5.5. It was negative. My uro began checking psa every 6 months. It remained relatively constant for a year & 1/2 when it rose to 7. Another biopsy came up negative. At that time my uro told me that he was fairly sure that I did have PCa but couldnt treat it until…

When did my prostate cancer start?
Has anyone ever asked themselves and then their Doctors if they could determine when their Prostate Cancer started? I was 46 when I found out and had my LRP 3 months after. I did ask my doctor 4 or 5 months after surgery if he could determine when my cancer actually started?? He said there was a good chance it began up to…

Kudos to the Veterans’ Administration
I have heard a lot of complaints about the Veterans’ Administration, mostly from the vets at the hospital, but I have nothing but admiration for them. I am on active surveillance and during a recent compensation and pension exam a physician’s assistant (on contract to the VA) who had no training in urology or oncology and…

Good News But . . .
Good news! The E-MRI/MRSI scans that I took on 10/2 at UCSF were negative for cancer anywhere in or near my prostate. There's a small chance of a "false negative" but (according to my RO) there are no better scans and IMO no point doing a biopsy w/o a specific reason to suspect the recurrence of the cancer. So, there's…

after AMS 800 AUS pad use
To those of you with an AUS, do you still have to wear a pad? I had DaVinci RP in February 2010. A year later I was down to one pad per day, and it wasn't very used. So I decided to have the Advance sling implanted, figuring that would solve the incontinence. Well, that surgery actually backfired. Although I still only use…

Second opinion at MD Anderson
I went to MD Anderson this week and met with a surgical urologist and later a radiation specialist. They had my biopsy results and PSA information beforehand and gave me a lot of information to consider. Each doctor made the case for his approach but both reassured me I would get a good result with either approach.…
