BRCA2 With No Family History of Ovarian or Breast Cancer
Hi - I am 38 years old and was recently in shock to find out that I have the BRCA2 mutation. I have absolutely no family history of ovarian or breast cancer. I just had a baby. I would really prefer not to have my ovaries removed. I am not keen on hormone replacement therapy as there is a history of heart stuff in my…

New to the board! Hello :)
Hi everyone! Since my diagnosis, I think I have been moving non-stop. I am 25, and this past spring a 14x14x14cm mass was found on my left ovary. It was actually a miracle. I had no symptoms, but went to the doctor to have a IUD placed before I went abroad to visit my (now ex) boyfriend, and that is how they found the…

Platelets still WAY low
I am scheduled for my last big treatment next week (25th) However, today my platelets are still only at 35. He gave me the 5th treatment 3 weeks ago today at 74. I'm wondering if that's why they're so low. I'm just discouraged. I want to get this over with and try to pick up the pieces and move on with my life! Carla

Just wanted to start a new thread to let you know I am praying for a good PET scan for your mom. The other post was old & long & had scary stuff on it a about chemo. I read a big explanation about ovarian cancer written by an oncologist--there's a part where he wrote some advice for people who are not making progress with…

hello to everyone...i found this board and take great comfort in many of the posts....i tried to find a match for my stage IV in two support groups and was told there was no one! that was pretty discouraging. i was diagnosed 13 months ago ... i was having trouble breathing and my pcp thought i had asthma so he kept…

Coughing
I have posted this before, but I still can't shake this cough I have. Did 5 rounds of radiation and started chemo 2 1/2 weeks ago-Carbo/Taxotere for a recurrence. I can't stop coughing. Is it the cancer or the treatments that cause this? It has me worried that it is in my lungs, although the PET/CT scan 6 weeks ago showed…

Body Aches?
I have had 5 treatments of carbo/taxol, and 4 of Avaistan. I am scheduled for the 6th and final treatment on Oct. 25. It should be the 18th, but the dr. decided to give me an extra week since my platelets have been so low. I'm having pain in my shoulders, legs, feet and hands. It's not constant, but more than it was. How…

Good news to report
Hi, my loves, Many of you might know that I've been chemoing for the past 22 months for my first recurrance. (for newer sisters, I was diagnosed 3C/May 2006 and had about 3 years of NED). For the past several months, my CA-125s have stayed steady at around 78. I had become resigned to thinking that chemo was at least…

New, Surgery next week for 10cm complex mass
Hi everyone, I am due to have surgery next week for a large complex ovarian mass and I am a bit nervous as I have previously had cervical cancer. the mass was found during a hospital stay for Chron's disease, the doctor mentioned in passing that they found an ovarian cyst during an MRI but neglected to mention that it was…

The Cancer Project
Check out www.cancerproject.org After reading an article in our local newspaper I signed up for "Food for Life" cooking classes sponsored by the Cancer Project. I had heard of this program several months ago on TV but this group had no local programs then, but happily now they do. There is the website with recipes and…

Friend diagnosed: Need the real information.
Hello Everyone, I am very familiar to these boards in that I have been on the Head and Neck discussion board since April 2010 when my guy was diagnosed with Stage IV SCC of his tonsil. I know what these boards are and what they do. I could not have been the supportive caregiver I was without what gets shared here. Now one…

transfusion
Hi all !!! I got my lab results back from my 6th chemo. My platelets are at 44, so I am going to have a transfusion in the next couple of days. Soon as they can get me in. I knew I was awfully short of breath and tired, and now I know why. Has anyone else had to experience this? The onc said most likely having been through…

Recurrence Symptoms
I will be going for my CA125 test next month. I have been NED for a little over 3 years now. I was initially diagnosed as Stage IIIC OVCA. I am still nervous every three months even after all of these years. As the time nears, I suddenly start feeling sick. I feel nauseated, bloated, fatigued, etc...I know these are more…

Anyone with ovarian cancer who is BRCA 1 or 2
I've decided to go at the suggestion of my doctor for BRCA testing. From what I understand, and I don't know too much at this point, within the last couple of days there was new information about BRCA women who had ovarian cancer (I think BRCA 2 not sure) and new chemotherapy available for that. Has anyone else who has…

Latest info about my port problem
After going back & forth for several weeks now, I met with my surgeon and it was decided that the port I've been having a problem with needs to be removed. I still have some redness near the scar line but it's much better than before. All they can tell me is that this infection most likely happened as to the way my port…

Friend has ovarian cancer
She got the news a couple of days ago and I am from the breast cancer board. She was told that after surgery she will need chemo and radiation. I know it's early yet to determain her stage since what I've read tells me that is usually done after surgery. I was wondering if the chemo drugs are similar to mine from breast…

Waiting for latest CA 125 result
I had my blood drawn yesterday. I hate this couple of days. Once I get my result I can breathe again for another three months. And I really hate the phone call I will make tomorrow to get the result. My heart pounds as I await news of my fate. Ovarian cancer has a hold on us even when it is (hopefully) not there. Damn it!…

CA 125 Went Up Instead of Down
I just had my second round of Taxol/Carboplatin on Monday. My lab work prior to chemo showed my CA 125 had elevated from 170 to 446 since my first round of chemo. That seemed very strange to the doctor and they are going to retest it next week at lab draws. Anyone else experienced something like this. My cancer had been…

Good news....I think. At least it's not bad news.
Just got home from my appointment with my friendly, local gyn/onc. We can't tap the fluid and test it because it's trapped in the hernia sac and they can't go thru the mesh with the needle they use for paracentesis. On the other hand, because it IS inthe hernai sac, and nowhere else, it might be totally unrelated to Cancer…

Did not pass for chemo yesterday
Hola amigas, I was ready yesterday for my seven cycle of chemo but the nurse told me that my blood can't clot and I have to wait for a week. Has anyone experience this before and what should I do to increase this and be ready for next week. Thank so much

Passive exercise and a great supplement
I don't know if anyone has talked about chi machines before, and I'm not trying to sell them, but I though I'd share a bit about them. They are good for anyone but perhaps vital for people who are too compromised by illness to be able to do conventional exercise. You basically lie on your back with your ankles elevated on…

Very excited!
So I couldn't wait to come home and type this to let you ladies know that I am spreading the word about ovarian cancer. I have been volunteering at the hospital I was treated at by teaching kartate thru the Kids Kicking Cancer program. I know the director because he is a student at our Martial Arts Academy that my fiancee…

saw the movie 50/50
and thought it was very well done. This man had a 50/50 odds of beating his cancer and my odds are not as good. All the emotions you felt are addressed in the movie, shock, anger, hopelessness ,and a renewed relationship with friends and family. It also has some caregiver issues as well. It is a tear jerker so bring your…

Ascites for the 1st time ever. I gained 5 lbs. of fluid weight in 3 days. :(
I guess each of us has something that frightens us, and for me it has always been ascites. I too vividly remember Linda Dorian and Nancy and the ascites they had so bad at the end. I guess I associate sudden weight loss and ascites with the 'end of days', so to have ascites for the 1st time myself..... I gained 5 pounds…

Seeing my hometown gyn/onc Wed
I am worried about the "small amount of ascites" that showed up on my CT scan last week, so I am going to ask my regular gyn/onc if he will send me next door to the hospital and get them to take a sample of the fluid and test it for malignancy. I'm betting he won't do it, but I'm going to ask. My doctor came very highly…

Calling all prayer warriors!
Tomorrow is my 6th treatment! I am praying that if any cancer cells remain, they will be killed by this final onslaught. Of course, I dread the next two weeks as I get the usual...bone pain, steroid stuff, restless nights, sweating, chemo brain, problems with hands/feet....etc. I am sort of surprised after reading some of…
