Post-nephrectomy, esp. for those who have been there
A major concern I have about a pending radical nephrectomy (R kidney) is comfort and safety when I get home after the surgery. I’m 70 and live alone now. If the procedure is laparo, I anticipate an overnight stay in the hospital and then home. From your experience(s), do you think I’d be okay on my own? I’m thinking,…

PET Scan found Soft Glow in Liver (Golf Ball Size)
I am asking for my mother. Are the glows on the PET Scan always cancer? They want to follow up with an MRI to get a better picture and if that's not clear a biopsy. They found one soft glowing golf ball size in her liver. I thought PET Scans were the best. (Background)She started with Kidney cancer years ago and had one…

4 years next month NED and now....
Had my annual CT right after Thanksgiving. Stage 1, Grade 2 measured at 2 cm. Di Vinci Right Kidney CCRCC. Still NED thankfully, BUT they found a highly suspicious and pretty much unviewable lesion in my liver right under my rib cage in a very difficult place. Ultrasound couldn't get to it and subsequent MRI Oncologist…

Frustrated with the New System
I’ve been trying for two days to post a reply to Bill’s 2cm post because my situation was similar. Nothing gets posted. I get a message that my comment will post after the moderator approves it. But the comment sits there in limbo. Bill, for a mass your size, CT may or may not resolve what it is. My initial lesion was…

Concerned about a 2 cm kidney mass
Hello everyone, I came across this site searching for information on the web (as Im sure everyone does) regarding the topic of Kidney cancer and I am quite impressed with the posts! I'm 48 and recently had an ultrasound done with respect to some abdominal pain. Although the abdominal pain is gone and all was fine, there…

12mm clear cell kidney tumor
June 2017 had surgery to remove 12mm clear cell kidney tumor, grade 1 stage pt1a, with no vascular invasion. been consistent with follow ups. September 2020 had a ct which came back clear. Does anyone know odds of recurrence? urologist told me very unlikely to come back, explained to me that it’s somewhat like a skin…

A question for the gents
I guess a catheter will be a necessary part of the surgery. I’ve looked at info about the process, but nothing has told me how it feels (insertion, wearing/using, removal?). Painful at all, or just uncomfortable? Also, how long was your catheter in place after the surgery? I can’t be assured if the surgery will be lap. or…

Uncle NED, you came back! I've missed you
Hello everyone, I just wanted to update the world. Quick recap, 2015 two small tumors removed from my right kidney, both were chromophobe 2.2cm and 8mm. In 2018 there was a 5mm mass in my left kidney. 2019 it grew to 8mm and then in 2020 it hit puberty and grew to 2.2cm. This time it was cystic clear cell. In October of…

🎶 "It's the most scanxious time of the year!" 🎶 (three years post-surgery)
Last week I had my scans. CT of my chest went quickly, MRI of the abdomen/pelvis felt quick (because I think I fell asleep in the tube). Everything went smoothly... until it didn't. My doctor is always great about sending test results right away so I don't stress out. True to form, he sent me the MRI results within a…

Radical Nephrectomy
I am facing a radical nephrectomy, and I want very much to hear from people who have had either laporoscopic or open surgery. (Laporoscopic surgery might not be feasible in my case, but it will only be when the anesthetic has worn off that I’ll actually know which method was used.) Can anyone help me by sharing your…

Still NED one year Post Op for 3x3 Stage T1a Grade 3 Kidney Cancer
After having bi-monthly USG with Blood Tests and CXR and then a PET-CT scan in June with another USG+CXR and Blood Tests in November, every test was negative. Hope and pray it stays the same God Willing.

3 mo post OP check up
Had my 3 mo post OP check up and my scans looked good...no sign of any problems. Also had a cyst on my left kidney that has decompressed since my last scan...so that's gone. My blood work was all awesome...he said my kidney function was perfect. So I'm apparently all good till my next check in 6 months from now.

NED after 7 years
Hello everyone! Well, the new board had me staring at it like a ram at a new gate :-) But finally figured out how to create a new topic :-) I’ve posted some time ago that my husband had a clear chest x-ray 7 years after Stage 1 surgery. Couple of weeks ago he also had a abdominal USG, finally! I’m happy to report all…

Survivorship Program Appointment
I had my first appointment with the nurse practitioner at Stanford’s Survivorship Program this morning. It went quite well. It took an hour, though a part of that was just introducing myself and her asking questions to get to know me. She asked what I wanted to get out of the appointment. I explained that in addition to…
