I know some of you werre on 5FU for that 96 hours. My friend was on cisplatin for those 96 hours. Has anyone here heard of that? She is going to a local…

How many radiologists does it take to screw in a light bulb?
Just one but the light bulb needs to be brought in every day M-F for 7 weeks and at the end of the 7 weeks the bulb won't work for a few more weeks.

How many oncologists does it take to screw in a light bulb?
Just one but get a second and third opinion because the light might not even be burned out and oncologists don't know how to flip light switches.

New York Times Interview
I joined the group right after my ENT told me I may have cancer. I wanted to let you all know about the interview I had yesterday with a New York Times reporter doing a story on the surgeon, Dr. Eric Genden at Mt. Sinai, who will be doing my biopsy and surgery (transoral robotic and neck resection) this Friday. Dr.…

extracapsular spread
My name is Angel and I have been diagnosed with stage 4b tonsil cancer. I had a neck dissection where my ent found 4 lymph nodes positive for cancer and extracapsular spread in the fatty tissue in my neck. He said my chances for a cure are at least 50/50. When I saw my oncologist, who had initially told me 50/50, but then…

Stoppers4-save some money
I get my Stoppers4 at Cosmetic Mall.com The four ounce bottles are $5 each. They award "points" for every purchase, (that equal 5% of the purchase amount). Today I ordered four jugs and paid $11.95 including shipping...thanks to the points I have accumulated. Beats the heck out of biotene 1.5 oz. for $7 bucks at Kroger.…

Muscle Spasms in Neck: Can anyone relate?
Howdy everyone. It has been a while since I have posted a thread; but Mark is complaining more and more of "tightness" in his neck. Last night for the first time, he described it in a way that I could understand better. He said it was like having a constant muscle spasm in his neck, and he is combating that pain all day,…

NED vs. Remission......
.....doc today told hubby that his scans looked good, bloodwork is good, and that he is "in remission". Of course we are thrilled and happy dancing, and thanking everyone for their support on this site! I was surprised that doc used the term "remission" though.....I thought that was more reserved for a Hodgkins-type…

Scope today
Hubby had scope today - first since ending chemoreirradition for epiglottic cancer 18 months ago. ENT said he saw two areas of "irregularity" on epiglottis. Suggested scoping again in two months. All PETs - last one in November, came out clean in this area. Has anyone else had areas of "irregularity" that turned out ok?…

Confused and Lost ...in my celebration of life.
I'm new to the discussion board, but not to cancer. First diagnosed in Dec. 2009 and had surgery on the base of the tongue. Then a reoccurance in May 2010, which resulted in another surgery and radiation for 7 1/2 weeks. Both lesions (also HPV-16 positive) were luckily Stage I. The reason for my post is that I am…

recunent squamous cell carcinoma to the tongue
We recently found out that my husband's tonsil cancer of 4 years ago has recurred at the base of his tongue. We are not being given many choices. They are saying that as he had chemo and radiation the first time, he cannot have radiation again. his option is to have his entire tongue taken out. He would not be able to eat,…

Again.
The second surgery to try to free up my lung went a lot smoother then the first. I woke up in recovery and was able to go home. I am still quite the popular girl there though; everyone seems to know who I am. It seems to be working and I am breathing better. The chemo has started again. Not as wicked as the first, yet with…

Cancer Fighting Recipes for busy people
Found this great web site today. I am getting a bit frustrated with my banal salads so this was a good find, started by a fellow 'Survivor', so recipes are simple and fast. Statistics show most long term survivors have made firm changes to their lifestyle and especially to their diet. http://pinkkitchen.info/ Best to all.…

Curious about 2nd round of chemo recommended for NPC
Just curious about what treatment others have received for NPC. I did 33 radiation treatments. They made them a little stronger so I didn't have to do 35. I did my first Cisplatin on the first day of radiation, and then 3 weeks later did Carboplatin for 4 weeks because I had ringing in my ears. I finished up on March 4th,…

How did you choose your forum name?
Just curious about peoples' sign in names and what the letters and/or numbers mean. Buzz is actually my husband's nickname and we only use his legal name when necessary. The 99 was added when we used Buzz for a sign-in on another website and Buzz was already taken. Karen

Can't get Dental Implants Need Denture Solution
I had a complete maxillectomy to remove a plasmacytoma in my left maxillary sinus. They removed the roof of my mouth and reconstructed using my fibula and rib bone. Then he proceeds to tell me that my…

An Update
After joining and posting a few questions several months ago, I strangely stopped visiting the site - avoidance? I don't know. I've been in good spirits with some ups and downs. This condition and the effects of treatment are frustrating though. My third and last chemo was January 25, and the final radiation treatment was…

Neck disection question
So with the neck disection how does the fluid that has built up drain back down so the swelling will be reduced. It seems like the fluid just moves from side to side and stays under my chin depending on which side I lay on. So if I lay on my left side during the night when I get up the left side of my face is severly…
