port and swimming
Hi, As **** recovers from surgery he is trying to look forward to things. One thing we are wondering is can he swim in the ocean with a port? If you don't have a port what do they do? New IV each time for chemo? Who decided on whether or not someone gets a port? Take care. Kathleen

My Job...
I went to visit my work yesterday, since my hospital stay last week, and everyone was really happy to see me. They gave me a card that they all signed and it had over 200 bucks in it, I just started bawling, and said they didn't have to do that. I also found out that I had to be there for a year to do that Family Medical…

Smells and nausea"
I just wanted to let everyone know that something suggested in a past posting worked for me, so it might work for others. I think it was Cheryl who made this suggestion... I had been having great trouble of feeling very nauseated the moment the chemo nurse rubbed my port with alcohol. I actually think the nausea reaction…

All of you help me so much...
What I've been reading helps me...I don't feel alone and the only one trying to fight this cancer. I also realize there are others who have had more severe stage 4 cancer and (forgive my ignorance) children that have severe cancer. When I think it's the end of life as I know it...I am thankful for the experienced people…

Good news, bad news, no news, who knows? I had my appt with my oncologist on Monday. I'm not quite sure what to make of it. My CEA has been consistently at .05 since I ended the chemo. It's gone up to .4 which is still definitely within normal limits but I worry because it's inching up. I'm assuming this is normal???????…

Thanks everyone for helping me get past my unreasonable fear of the upcoming surgery.I had my pre-op tests today, and the techs were so wonderful. CAT scan vs PET scan
Hi All, ****'s surgery went well. They took 75% of his colon and as I mentioned, they took a lot of lymph nodes and we are waiting for the path report on Monday. The nodes were enlarged so the surgeon said plan on chemo. The surgeon also said he did not see anything on the liver. The original CAT scan 1/12/09 showed organs…

Hi, Well here I sit waiting in the waiting room. **** went into surgery about 2 hours ago. I've heard from the nurse twice and he said all was well but they did not know how much longer it will be. Let the Radiation Begin.
I start tommorow with 28 daily radiation treatments in combination with daily Xeloda. It has been nice to be off any drugs for the last week. I feel great for the moment. Wish me luck with the radiation, I am uncertain what side effects will come my way. It is a necessary evil on the way to a cure. Mike
