something good at work, for a change :)
Today---, 2 years after my bilateral mastectomy--- a co-worker broke into tears because she felt like she abandoned me in my times of need and still feels like that. She apologized and cried. Weird, the circumstances, because I was the one to give her a hug and tell her that it is okay!!! We talked a bit, and I realized…

My letter to Breast Cancer
Breast Cancer, You pulled the rug from under me, but you didn't make me fall. I became proactive, got my balance, stood up straight, and along with my cancer team, declared war on you. We all fought like true warriors and I will continue to fight until you are eradicated from the face of this earth. You will never steal my…

Ha Ha for the day ... 10 Husbands, Still a Virgin ... A lawyer married a woman who had previously divorced ten husbands. On their wedding night, she told her new husband, "Please be gentle, I'm still a virgin." "What?" said the puzzled groom. "How can that be if you've been married ten times?" "Well, Husband #1 was a sales…

Late last week I started getting bad pressure headaches around/behind my right eye. (Can't remember when I had my last headache.) Took a Vicodan which did nothing to relieve it so I took a dexatheasone (left over from chemo) which did work. As I was going to the Sweat Lodge and Retreat I decided that I'd go and then call…

Saw cardiologist yesterday
Many of you recall that I had a mild heart attack years after my original diagnosis. In 1987 I had Stage 3A and left mastectomy, rads, chemo and tamoxifen. I have no family hx of heart disease. I have low blood pressure (rarely over 100/60), am not overweight, etc. Literally my only risk factor was having been a survivor…

99 bottles of Chen on the wall...
99 bottles of Chen...if one of those bottles should happen to fall... Was just fussing in the kitchen when I glanced over at the wine rack....and there you were. It reminded me of that day a couple of months back, when women with nothing more in common than these deviant cells in our bodies got together, broke bread and…

Retreat - Lakota Sweat Lodge
This last weekend I went to a Women's Retreat that had the option of starting it with a Lakota Sweat Lodge. I cannot think of any more SPIRITUAL experience ever. It is not about a particular "religion" but rather about connecting with yourself and your 'Higher Power'. Retreat was good - in most ways. The overall was good…

Did anyone have to stop Herceptin treatments due to heart problems?
I have completed 6 treatments of TCH and now have been having just Herceptin every 3 weeks. They did an echocardiogram last week and my EF (ejection fraction) dropped several points and now my oncologist is asking me if I want to continue the Herceptin treatments. I was supposed to have them until April.

Hair buzzed
Found a beautician in the neighborhood whose mother had Breast Cancer. She gave me a "buzz" and didn't charge me. Instead she gave me a big hug. Her mother went to Freodtert Hostpial in Milwaukee. unable to take Tamoxifen
My Oncologist just called informing me the results from the CYP2D6 test. And I'm one the rare people who won't benefit from Tamoxifen, for my body won't metabolize the drug. We discussed two options, a drug called Toremifene or an injection of Zoladex(to put me in fast forward menopause)then followed up by taking an…

Change of Diet... Nutrionist?
Did everyone run right out after their dx and change all their eating habits? (Assuming they were not-great to begin with) As I sit here stuffing my face full of Snickers, even if they are the "minis", I'm realizing that a better diet is the only thing I haven't researched to death! Should I be lining up consults with…
