No hair and no tears!!! At least not yet.
While there may be tears to come, Donna did GREAT with the head clipping and wig fitting. They buzzed and she looked good; she has a nice shaped head. The funny thing is that even though her hair is cropped so short, you can still see her part. The wig is a real hair wig, which was then styled. Not exactly the style she…

Word Of The Day (for all you horse lovers like me out there)
When I get down about this cancer thing....I close my eyes and envision just my Jesus and me riding horses on the beach. He is riding a white horse and mine is jet black. I have always loved black horses. It is the most empowering thing that I do when my spirit is laying low....when I envision this, it lifts me to heights…

what is a clean margin?
I thought I would post my experience with margins in case it helps someone else in their care decisions. I was diagnosed in Dec 09 at age 41 with IDC (1 cm) in my left breast. The first surgeon I went to recommended lumpectomy and radiation with possible chemo depending on Oncotype score. Seemed logical from everything I…

I should be happy & grateful...shouldn't I??
I was very strong and positive from the moment I was dx bck in Sept 09. Went thru chemo Taxotere, carbo and herceptin (still on Herceptin til Oct) and finished 6wks of awful radiation. Still strong! Till I started Tamoxifen about 3wks ago. I too was thrown into early menopause at 41, maybe the combination of Tomoxifen,…

Oncoplasty & Radiation
Has anyone had reconstructive performed after lumpectomy for DCIS? Dr. is suggesting it for me; removal of implants, lift both breasts and fill lumpectomy incision with my breast tissue. Then followed by radiation. So far as I know I am Hr and Er negative. An awful lot for me to take in and am scared to death of the…

saving eggs
I have not seen anything on this site about having your eggs removed before chemo. I am in a support group and we had a young woman come and she would like to have some of her eggs removed and stored for later. Her insurance will not pay for it. She has had some luck with getting the medicines covered for the proceedure,…

People whom you thought were your friends...
Did they just sort of drift away, become distant, you don't really hear from them anymore? This makes me sad, is there something wrong with them or with me? Screw em..... yeah I said it. Love Ronda

How long have you been on this board?
I remember when I first found this board. I was anxiety ridden and desperate to find some guidance from women who went through the same experience as me. And I found that and so much more. Just reading over the entries, there's so much caring and bonding on this board that sometimes I wish I could meet you in person. I saw…

helping others
I had contacted the I have wings foundation for breast cancer and shared my story with them. I wanted to volunteer somehow and help other breast cancer fighters. Well, the lady who started the foundation called me today. She is a survivor herself. She told me they have been wanting to start a program called secret angel,…

I started a new thread because the other one is so long. I am so sorry for your pain and suffering and having to go through a different battle. It seems so unfair for anyone to have to go through this crap again. I hope things are going well for you. You seem very positive and thats great. Know that you are in my prayers.…

So, I went topless...
The beach in Barcelona was top optional. So, I thought there couldn't be a better time to show off the 'girls', even with the scars...I must say, no one even glanced at this old lady (but, my girls were better than some...MUCH worse than others...lol!). And, yes, I DO have pics....NO, I WON'T be posting them...ROFLMAO!!!…

My hubby and I are going to our first Relay For Life this weekend, and at first, I was really excited and wanting to go. Word for the day 7/8
Psalm 63....O God, You are my God; early will I seek You; my soul thirsts for You; my flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water. So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, to see Your power and Your glory. Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You. Thus I will…

Dry eyes & tearing - for Janice/Boppy
Janice, I was afraid you wouldn't see this in the middle of the other thread. Dry eyes can occur when the composition (oil, water, mucus) and balance of tears changes. That can be due to hormonal changes, antihistimes (like they give during chemo), antidepressants and many other reasons. From emedicine: A symptom of Dry…

A Great Need - we are all holding hands
This poem got me thinking about how we are all holding hands....thanks to all you wonderful women on this board. A GREAT NEED Out of a great need We are all holding hands And climbing. Not loving is a letting go. Listen, The terrain around here Is Far too Dangerous For That. --Hafiz

Got my implants installed!
It went great yesterday. One hour surgery, one hour recovery, then home! Yes, it is a relief to get expanders out. So worth the process -- even with bandages, glue, ink and swelling, implants are wonderful. Even through the swelling they're softer than expanders. A real breast shape, too! Get this -- haven't needed ANY…

Awesome
Had first scan of the chest, abdomen and pelvic today. Now haven't seen the doc, but I asked the tech if he saw "hot spots" and he said "nah". That's good right? I work at this hospital and know him. Hope he's not fibbing to me, cause it made my day. Next adventure...Urologist Friday. Mammo on the 16th and visit with the…

Can't seem to get rid of the Drains!
I had bilateral mastectomy 4/29/10. My doctor removed my three drains within the first three weeks (two the first time, the last one later). Afterwards I had fluid buildup on the non-cancerous breast side-no lymph nodes removed from that side. Over the next several weeks I had to go to the surgeon weekly to have fluid…

Blurred vision
Has anyone experienced blurred vision when on Arimidex? I woke with this and thought it might be from dry eyes since the temperature has been extreme this week. I increased my fluid intake and therefore the frequency of restroom visits today at work. I called my Med Onc's office and spoke to the NP. I agreed to use one of…
