Has anyone had rads without putting thier arm over their head?
I am going to have my mapping done on Tuesday so I can get started with my rads. I have a problem with my shoulder and can not get my arm up over my head without pain. I am very worried about what will happen. I have seen an occupational therapist and am going again tomorrow but that will not solve the problem. I have…

Life goes on.....
Hi everyone! Just wanted to stop by to hug all my old friends and welcome the new ones (although sorry you had to seek us out). I am having a terrible time with the Arimidex (uhgggg...whole different story I do not have time for tonight that you have been spared from!), but other than that I am getting on with life! I miss…

Update on DIEP vs TRAM flap procedure decisions
I went to the plastic surgeon today to discuss my reconstruction options. He has done over 300 breast reconstructions and is trained also in doing the DIEP. After examining me and from his experience, he advised me my best option was something called 'muscle sparing free TRAM flap' surgery. He said it gives the best…

09 was not a good year, 2010 has to be better
In april 1 i had gallbladder surgery and 5 months later i had breast cancer. I have learned a lot about life and what really bothers me is when i see someone who is so misreable, always complaining, never happy and i think to myself what if you were told you had cancer how would you act then. I see the beauty in clouds,…

? on bilaterial mastectomy
I have chosen to have a bilaterial mastectomy instead of a single. My question is does that mean that I can't use a pressure cuff or have bld drawn from the noncancer side? I don't like the idea of getting stuck in the leg or foot.

Question on scan results
Wife just had her X-rays, CT & bone scans done earlier this week. Since she works at the hospital, she has access to the reports....everything looks OK except for one thing. The Ct showed a right ovary that appeared to be "normal" and "unremarkable". The problem is she had a bi-lateral Oophorectomy done this past October.…

Tissue expander shape/size vs. implant shape/size
Hey ladies, It's been said that they are no dumb questions, but this may be the first one. If I'd heard someone ask it a year ago, I would have thought they were looney. But ... I'm having a hard time deciding when to stop with my fills with the tissue expanders. I didn't think it would be hard to decide. My problem is ...…

Dreading My First Chemo Tomorrow, May 6
I'm starting to feel better from the masectomy, well enough that I went to the bra shop today and was fitted for the prothesis and masectomy bras. That cheered me up and almost made me feel and look normal. Tomorrow is the day I dread. We have to be at the hospital at 5:30AM for 7:30AM port installation, then recovery and…

Tissue Expanders
I had a bilateral mastectomy on April 15th with the reconstruction process started. They put in tissue expanders and it feels like I have a pair of steel hand cuffs laying on my chest. They have not even begun to expand them yet because I had a to have an outpatient surgery to get rid of some skin that was not healing.…

Hopefully I'll never see the inside of that oven again! and for those of you in the middle/just beginning/or almost done I have to say that after my last crybaby post I have healed significantly. Probably only about 1 week of OUCHIES! With the last 5 treatments being focused on the scar area the rest of the…

Anyone had this???
It's been a while since I have been here...but I have a question. I just finished my last round of chemo on 4/26...soooo happy! But, I am getting an itchy acne like rash all over my back and a little on my head. My chemo was cytoxan/taxotere. Has anyone else had this? Have you found anything that has helped you with…

Radiation question
Day #1 of radiation treatment ... 4 hours later and I feel like my throat is closing ... very sore. Is this from the radiation???? Thank you for responding since it is too late to call the treatment center and I prefer your advice anyway!!!

wouldn't you think. . .
. . .that your doctors know what is best/right for you??? my medical oncologist kept telling me that when i finished chemo, we would do either another pet scan or breast mri before the mastectomy (i have inflammatory breast cancer, so no focal point for the tumor). well, the breast surgeon said no, we have to do the…

Radiation and Tissue Expander
Has anyone had successful reconstruction with tissue expander / implant after radiation? At the time I elected to have a tissue expander I didn't think I would need radiation but after discovery of 4 pos nodes, I had to have radiation after the tissue expander was placed. Now I'm finished with rads and am waiting for skin…

Newbie
Hello, I am new to the discussion board. I have had 3 surgerys in 3 weeks to remove cancer from my breast. I have to do chemo and then radiation. I have been reading the posts and have learned from your experiences. I have been calm throughout this process, and now I can feel my calm slipping. I am scared. More than I can…

I'm Sorry
After reading this board for a few weeks, I feel like I need to agologize for the male sex. As a group we are generally insensitive, and likely to say the wrong thing at the wrong time. Also, even when we try to say the right thing it will come out wrong. I told my wife that I will probably say the right thing only about…

Anybody decide not to reconstruct??
I'm turning 55 this month - and am 3 months out of chemo. Did the bilat mast with no reconstruction. Couldn't take it all in at that time so determined to wait to make the decision. Now I'm not sure I want to go through the surgery for reconstruction - or what kind of reconstruction I would even want to undergo. Are there…

Finally got angry and I mean angry
I have known since April 26th that I have breast cancer. I have cried, felt like I am dying every emotion a woman can have. But not real anger until last night. First I read about the 21 year old being newly diagnosed yesterday. Sucks.. Then My daughter overwhelmed me with too much infor on her gentic testing(not back for…

Meeting with Medical Oncologist to plan my chemo treatments..need advice
I am meeting with my Medical Oncologist in a few days and I am so eager to get these Chemo treatments started...just scared out of my wits too. LOL Does anyone have any good advice on what questions I should ask him? Or questions that those of you already in or completed with chemo wish you would have asked them at that…

Gallbladder removed, but still iffy about Saturdays 5K with the Kindred Spirits :(
Quick update! My gallbladder surgery went smoothly, my surgeon said my insides were "unremarkable"...sheesh! LOL I got to be the drop-dead gorgeous interns study! Just what I wanted to be~NOT! At one point I had 3, count em 3, surrounding my bed asking if I minded if they lifted up my gown to look at my stomach. In another…

Another port removal question
Port is coming out on Friday, May 7th. I'm starting to freak out because it's being done only under a local. I'm a big chicken when I know what's going on!! I really don't want sedation (even twilight) so I just called my surgeon's nurse and asked her if I could take a Percocet or Vicodin before I come....hopefully to…

Finally
Well it happened I finally had not only CT scan but MRI of my arm. I finally got the action I was hoping for and it sounds as though the Dr. who heads MRI department helped to get me in quicker. Funny my Oncologist didn't seem to happy that I was requesting faster action and she was even defensive when I asked her had she…

Please explain this makes no sense to me.
Went thru chemo first the chemo killed the cancer. Pet scan showed no cancer anywhere. Went in had surgery. The tissue including 27 lymph nodes showed no cancer according to the pathology report. Now my doc wants me to go thru radiation. What for I do not have cancer anymore. She says just in case there was a cell left…

I am going to see a plastic surgeon on Thursday to discuss the flap surgeries and find out all the details about what to expect. I don't even know yet whether they have specialists who can do the DIEP but I am sure they do the TRAM. I had right mastectomy 1/19 and my right side still hurts after a day of work or cleaning,…
