Masectomy with flap reconstruction
Hi there, Has anyone had a single masectomy with the flap reconstruction? I have a schedule surgery on 1/5/10 and have chose to have immediate recontructive breast surgery with the tram flap since I have enough fat on my belly. I guess this is one case where it pays to have been a little extra weight. I am just curious to…

I have to admit that I am axnious about this surgery. I'm having reconstruction at the same time and should be under for about 8 hours. I have been having problems with my meds and when I gave a pint of my blood for my surgery the bag overfilled and they had to throw it out. I went to give another pint this week and my…

no primary tumour
I was diagnosed in January this year with breast cancer. Two cancerous lymph nodes but no primary tumour. Nothing showed up in the breast itself, not even with an MRI and in fact I had had a routine mammogram and ultrasound scan less than two months before I found the lump below my armpit while I was in the shower one…

Tamoxifen, different point of view
I'm hoping more information will make me less scared. As I discussed the Tamoxifen posts with my husband, he pointed out that we're hearing mostly from women who've had problems. That's good, because I think the doctors don't give us all the details (maybe they don't KNOW all the details that we suvivors do)! But let's see…

Surgery preparation
Hi. I will be having a masectomy of my left breast on Dec. 15. I will also have reconstruction. I will get expanders to be followed by silicone, I think, the plastic surgeon said I didn't have enough belly fat for the other surgery, which sounded scarey with 6 plus hours of surgery...Also, I am a B cup. Question is what…

Gynecological care while taking Tamoxifen
I posted something like this a few months ago, but there are lots of new people considering taking Tamoxifen, so I thought that I'd repeat, since I feel very strongly about this topic. I would like to encourage everyone to have consistent gynecological care before, during and after taking Tamoxifen. It's important for the…

? Thoughts on changing mastectomy date
IBC, the cancer has shrunk drastically. My surgeon said IF I want to wait until after the holidays it is acceptable. Of course, my oncologist will have the final say, and I am unsure today how he will be,(until he gets mri.) I'll have the mri Monday, then change heart meds which puts me close to Dec 22. I don't see an issue…

Change in breast post-lymph node dissection surgery
OK, somewhat personal question time. I had a complete lymph node dissection of the lymph nodes under my right arm on 1 September. The lymph nodes were removed due to recurrent malignant melanoma, not breast cancer, so in that respect my right breast is only incidentally involved. I just had a PET scan - the results were…

reconstruction options & insurance
I just met with my plastic surgeon and I asked him about the DIEP (I think that is what it is called) where they remove muscle from one part of your body and make a breast out of it by reconnecting it to the blood vessels under your arm. He says that most doctors are not doing this any more because it takes 8 hours and the…
