My second radiation was for SCC of the soft palate. The radiation field to treat this cancer was high enough it encompassed my maxillary sinuses and lacrimal apparatus. What Day s It ~ Crappie Day
For my fellow warriors doing battle, or just not back to their formal Abi-Normal self..., you will be. Hang in there, get through, and start planning on the things you love and can't wait to get back to..., for me that's fishing for one... Started the morning cold, foggy and with a slow bite…. First in the boat was a solid…

radiation where it isn't supposed to be
Is it common to have radiation burns in places where the radiation is not supposed to be going? My radiation should be confined to my neck and lower jaw, but I have burns on my breast and on my back. Not happy about that.

Esthesioneuroblastoma Diagnosis
My name is Jeff and I was just diagnosed with Olfactory Neuroblastoma. I am very thankful that I found this board and can find out more about this cancer. The one thing I do know is that it is rare...very rare. I am in central NC and it seems there is a very limited niumber of physicians that can help. To add to my…

Toothpaste
I finally looked into OCF and read about Biotene. It sounds like the "New and Improved" formula doesn't have what we need in it. I can't handle any other mint toothpaste, burns tongue and mouth and lips. What are you using for toothpaste that doesn't burn and has the enzymes that we need in it?

Rang the Bell Today
I can't believe it but I will not be going for any more treatments on Monday, I rang the bell today after my last rad treatment. It was and still is a little surreal, these last few days have been hell - voice gone and starting feeding through tube - my mouth and throat just too sore after the last few days of rads. Still,…

To be Flu shot or Not to be Flu shot?
Hello everyone. It is cold winter flu season. I just had a flu about 3 days ago and it almost gone out of me. However, it made me lost so much weight where I am back to where I was when I just finished my treatment. I've been out for one and half month now. Recovery was doing well until the flu took me all the way back. I…

FAQ about the CSN study
Please excuse the long post. A number of members have posed questions on the discussion boards or emailed me for more information about the CSN study that has been underway since November 2013. I thought it might be helpful to post the most common questions and my answers. What is the CSN survey? What is its purpose? The…

Yep, another clean PET scan! That's 4 in a row now and 1 solid year of clean scans! Thought I'd share the news with all the old gang here and the new as clean scans are a cause for celebration. So, when you're having a cold one tonight (even if it's through a tube), know that you're having one with me and that it's…

PET report and doctors visit encouraging
Feel better after oncologist visit. The bad news is the tongue cancer is back on the left side and extends to the left madible. The 15 nodules in the lungs have grown in size. There are a lot of medical terms about abnormal uptake and intense uptake in hilar region, mediastinum and others. I guess I need a medical…

ROLL CALL & MIA (Missing in Action) threads

Hello everyone, I wasn't sure I wanted to post this time around. But it's been a long journey. I had a very long visit with my primary today. Not So Garden Variety Anymore...
Other than side effects, I've been bug free for over a year. Suprisingly, I haven't had a stomach bug or cold since before my diagnosis in Nov. 2012.... That is until yesterday. OMG! I have a cold and I don't ever remember them ever being this debilitating! Is this normal for a simple garden variety cold to knock my socks…

Moh's
You would think that all of the 'c' would have been cooked out of me! Yesterday I had Moh's surgery for skin cancer, just regular old scc. They must think that I am crazy to be happy with garden variety scc and not my rare spindle cells and perineural involvement! Time to heal. Don't forget your regular derm appointments.

What a difference
What a difference a week makes. I woke up this morning feeling on top of the world and full of energy. I think this is because I doubled my water intake a week ago as the doc thought my low blood pressure was dehydration. I feel more confident about going out and about, I feel as if a weight has been lifted. I,m hoping…
