how long until the pain goes away
My husband wants to get back to work, but he's still on pain meds and he goes off shore and you can't take pain pain meds while on the oil rig. He is getting frustrated.. He was going to go next week, but it's for BP and they are super strict. So, we will continue to count our pennies.. LOL

technical question
Sometimes I read a discussion that says you can contact a particular person directly to ask a question by clicking on their name. Where do I do this. I know it is inappropriate to start a new topic to someone in the midst of a discussion already begun. And sometimes people offer for you to email them directly...I don't…

New ACS study
Probably some of you have seen a news piece on the results of a new experimental treatment carried out witht he support of ACS. Dr. Carl June conducted the treatment of three cancer patients diagnosed with a terminal stage of leukemia. The approach was to have the body produce what he called "chimera" cells from the…

Needles
You know, I’d really thought that I was pretty much over needles. I always used to faint or nearly faint when I got them. I remember that in college I would even give blood but immediately go to the recovery cots because it was that or the floor. Cancer changed all that... or so I thought. For six months I had at least one…

Hi Friends, Just a request for prayers as my PET/CT is set for Friday. I had been declared NED, yet they are watching a "hot spot" in mt throat. I have not had a PET since last year since my insurance company would not approve it because of the NED diagnosis. UGH! I am staying positive, and in prayer. I know that He's not…

Our sister Nicole has passed on (Nkimber)
I received an e-mail from Nicole's father today informing me that she passed away yesterday afternoon. We had become good friends over the last year as we both had bone mets and it often seemed as if we were fighting together for each other. We had planned on meeting in person a few times but it had been postponed as she…

I have been taking Metformin for almost 2 years now, and it has done a fairly good job of keeping my levels on track. When I had my first infusion on monday, the nurse said the chemo would affect the levels, today it was @ 391...does anyone else here see higher readings during the chemo treatments, and if so what can or do…

Heart rate and levothoroxine
The current exercise thread brought this to mind. Yesterday I had an ear cleaning at my General practitioner's office. He did the routine vitals. My resting heart rate was 56 and has been around there for the last year or so. I exercise all the time and just thought it was a positive side effect of exercise but now I am…

Surgery Tomorrow
Thanks everyone for all of the information and encouragement! The TORS surgeon and radiation doc reviewed the PAT scan again. They (we) decided that I will have surgery in the morning. They will do a biopsy on the other tonsil and see what the pathologists says while I am still under, if it's not more cancer, then they…

diarrhea
Not a pretty subject. BUT...Did anyone have chronic diarrhea from 5 F U. Docs have prescribed immodium, lomotil and nothing is stopping it. Mouth sores from 5 F U are so horrendous that we are back on PEG tube for most of nutrition. We were making progress until this "episode" and now very discouraged. Nothing tastes right…

I realized today that about a year ago was when I decided to try and find out why my voice was changing and I was having trouble swallowing. My primary care doc missed it over and over again. The best advice I can give anyone new to the site is to listen to your body and if you aren't feeling better, get another opinion.…

Exercise after Cancer
Good Afternoon! I hope this day treats you well. I came across the article on the NYT about exercising after cancer. New claims are that exercise can reduce the risk of recurrence by 40%! However, one part I wondered about said that it helps patients who gain weight during treatment, slim down and gain mobility. I would be…

Energy level
Well, I have another question. It seems that since Bob finished radiation two weeks ago, his energy level just goes down, down, down. He actually just slept or napped 20 hours yesterday. Is this "normal"? I'm really encouraging him to at least step outside for a bit, but he's not really getting much exercise. Do I force…

Leaving Las Vegas
No, I don't live anywhere near there. As I am sitting here today, enjoying a beer while the wizards are trying to figure out what type of chemo may kill the little beasties invading my body, I can't help thinking of the movie with Nicolas Cage. Have any of you been tempted to just say 'screw it' and head off somewhere and…

My husband is grubbing and had his first beer in 6 months
My husband is the grub monster. He is going to town on some food. He even tried a beer the other day and enjoyed it. He still has trouble with dry foods, but for the most part he is getting his main nutrition by mouth and supplementing with the peg tube on days his mouth hurts too bad. Not to crazy about the beer, but he…

Severe bleeding from the tongue.
Yesterday I started to cough and then sprayed some blood out my mouth, then I got up and went to the bathroom and the blood flow increased. Bright red blood and it flowed like a river out of my mouth, had my wife take me to the ER and the bleeding stopped about the time we got to the hospital, so about 25 minutes in all,…

best foods to begin "eating" again
My husband had neck dissection in April, sort of got some ability to taste things again before radiation began. Then he went from being able to sort of taste to saying that everything tasted HORRIBLE - just a horrible taste. He's now finished radiation at the end of July. He's now able to drink Ensure, says vanilla…

Well this sucks
Some of you may know that I've been having trouble with the right side of my face, chin and tongue. Than goodness it was only a short pain. Oh well just…
