Cea
How much is a cea supposed to drop initially on chemo? Can this happen where it drops 1 round and goes back up? My dad's cea was 65 befor chemo , 80 after round 1 and 55 after round 2. But I'm wondering if this 1 drop really means anything ?especially as previous irinitecan had not worked .

Brand New Caretaker Seeking Advice
Hello All! I'm sorry to have a reason to join this tribe, but I'm glad I'm here. My husband was just diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer (mets to liver and peritoneum). It's so new and, frankly, screwed up that I don't even know the specific diagnosis yet. Asking his oncologist to write it in the notebook I'm keeping for…

Tell me about port removal, please
I'm having my port-o-cath removed next Thursday because it's coming through the skin where the bumps are. Two bumps are already exposed and it hurts and it needs to come out. Anyway, how rough is it to have one removed. One woman at the cancer centre said when they take the tube that goes up the vein out it feels horrible.…

PET scan question
As I've mentioned, My brother recently passed from cancer. It was of the esophagus. Anyway, I was talking to me sister-in-law last night and she said that at one point he had a PET scan. I've heard of them but never had one or had it explained to me. She said it's just a blood test. Is that right? The word scan makes me…

So, today was scan/biopsy day....WHEW, to tell the truth, I was nervous!!!! The Ultrasound of my neck didn't show anything. YAY! The Ultrasound guided biopsy of the node could not be done because the ultrasound could not pick up anything other than....wait for it.... "Normal looking fat tissue"....first from the tech, and…

Upper respiratory problems seem more frequent after chemo. Is this common?
In the last six months, I've had three bouts of severe upper respiratory congestion combined with coughing and nasty nasal drip. This is three more than I had had in the two or three years before my diagnosis and treatment last year, so now I'm curious. Could it be that chemo left me more vulnerable to the common cold and…

CEA results
I finally got my CEA results today. It's 2.9 which the doctor said is within normal range and actually is lower than it was when they last did it in the hospital. It was in normal range then, too. I don't remember anyone telling me what it was before today but that's okay. I didn't realize how scared I was until he told me…

Thank you Laz & Helen
Not too long ago one of you started a thread or two about living with a colostomy bag. It was both funny and informative, and wonderful to be able to talk about the issues. Laz mentioned that he cleans himself out so he only has to deal with things every 4 days. That got me thinking since I was heading out for two weeks of…

Recovering at home after first (only hopefully) liver resection
Wow, You guys were right, manageable but painful. Huge Frankenstein incision, must have 50 staples holding it closed. Starting to walk a little better one week later. Good news, the chemo worked before surgery, folfoxiri plus avastIn. The right lobe lesion was down to two centimeters so a 4x4 divot was taken out. And the…

more good news!
I just had my 11-month post surgery blood work done and my CEA went down a bit to 1.8. It was 2.2 two months ago. For me that is huge! Last year marked my 4th surgery in 7 years (to the day). This is the first time I have not had a CEA over 5.0 a year later. By now I would be either going for scans to find the tumors or…
