CEA -- when is it a "good" marker?
I read a lot about CEA either being a good marker, or not. Wondered what mine might be considered. Dx February 2nd, this year, and have had 7 full chemo treatments -- folfiri, vectibix, and my CEA has dropped every time. Started at 44, then 43, 12, 4.2, 1.8, 1.4, 1.1, 0.9, and Wednesday it was 0.7. My dx was chemo for…

Had a cancellation, I'm going to sloan tomorrow.
Good thing because the bleeding is so heavy at this point that I was going to go back to my original surgeon anyway. Slept a lot the last three days, BM every two hours, abdominal cramping and can't sit at all. In this case, timing is everything. So. Dr. Guilleme at MSK it is! I think I'll start a cheer leading squad and…

Mom and colonoscopy
Hi everyone. Just wanted to let you know Mom had her first colonoscopy since the original "cancer" diagnosed one. And she did great. The doctor found only one small polyp and removed it. He said it appears to be nothing and he would see her again in a few years. She had been so scared and nervous and now she is on top of…

Questions for Thoracic Surgeon

Dreaded tests - Again
Hi Everyone, I haven't been on the boards for a long time so I doubt anyone will remember me. Short history. I was dx 2005 with stage 3 and on my birthday had it removed. I went through chemo and only was able to do 9 out of 12 because of my diabetis. Chemo plays havoc with that. I found out about a month ago that my CEA…

Where were you when you found out you had ColoRectal cancer?
I thought it might be fun (or maybe not) to hear some stories about how others found out that they had Colorectal Cancer. For me it was right after I had my colonoscopy. I woke up to find my wife talking to the doctor and my wife was crying. Right then I knew it had to be cancer and it was. The doctor told me that she took…

Gauging your cancer age
Hi everyone, I just responded to a post by Pete and it got me thinking about how you define a NED status. I was dx in June 2009, started chemo/radiation and then had the big surgeries in Oct. 2009. Currently I am NED, but would I say 3 years NED or 2 and a half years, since that's when the surgery was? Just curious. Much…
