Not so good...
.. in Normandy... As you know we went to Normandy in North France for a week of post-chemo-holiday yesterday. T finished his 6 Months of Oxi and Xeloda last Thursday and his bloodwork looked good so we went to France. We arrived good an early, the house is really really nice and everything could be so fine... If... yes if…

My Relay Speech- I wanted to share it with you.. we had a great day yesterday
Hello Relayers!!! I am so proud to be here today and have the opportunity to see you all again. You may recall last year I was not at Relay. I Relayed in spirit from the 4th floor of St Barnabas Hospital recovering from surgeries related to my cancer. Cancer is an ugly word. One I speak softly and it always has a small c…

Choosing between a local hospital and a cancer center
I realize I am very lucky to have this option. My insurance company added Sloan Kettering, a cancer hospital this past January as an in network provider and so I won't have to pay 50% of the hospital bill if I choose them. Except copays, it will be free. It's about an hour and a half from my house. My current surgeon is a…

CEA
My husband has just done his 18th chemo, still going well, has any one since dx cea has stayed at 2? His onc said some tumors don't respond to cea markers. Anyone else experienced this?

Woke up with cold symptoms - started chemo Friday/please help
Guess my body must be a little broken down from the surgeries I had. Started chemo Fri., Oxalyp., Folfox, Xeloda and today I have a swollen gland under my right jaw and feel like a cold is coming on. They drew my blood but I don't know what my cell count was. It was ok three or so weeks ago. I guess this was bound to…

shortness of breath chemo side effect?
Hi all, I haven't posted much on this board. My husband started Folfox & Avastin in January, had 5 treatments & developed such severe shortness of breath they stopped chemo. O2 did not help & SATS were good. After PFT's,CXR, scan & Pulmononary consult, everyone finally agreed it must be the Oxaliplatin-even though they…

Is anyone else foating adrift?
That's what it feels like since there really isn't anyone directing my care. I haven't seen my oncologist in almost two years and my surgeon has been doing my scan requests the last year or so and said he'll continue for now but he's a VERY busy guy. My GP is clueless and just goes along with whatever I say. Here's the…

is it working?
How do i know its working? I finish 5FU this week then wait 6 weeks for follow up exam with surgeon then 2 more weeks til surgery. I have done really well on chemo/radiation - just diarrhea and burn pain (ouch!) And im really tired. But thats it. I worry that "its not working because im not sick enough." Is that warped or…

Scan results were not what I wanted to hear.
I went to Oncologist yesterday for my results of MRI from Wednesday. Not great news. One of the lesions in my liver has increased from 0.5 cm x 0.6 cm to 3.6 cm x 3.0 cm and then another one of the smaller lesions mm size has increased as well. For the most part, there are still 15 lesions scattered across both lobes with…

I finally told my 81 year old mother I have cancer after 7 weeks!
Why is it always the hardest to tell your own mother??? I live in Georgia and she lives in Florida near my to older sisters. I told my sisters right away but couldn't tell mom, it was so hard. I am the baby of her 4 kids. There is no family history of cancer in our family, I have never smoked, just have always ate wrong.…

Weird scan results--anyone else?
Pet results this week. Lung nodules about the same with small increase in uptake. Same on bone mets. Not really surprising since my chemo has been hit or miss because of side effects. Surprise was a met in my shoulder muscle. Had an MRI yesterday to confirm and it's 10mm x 16 mm so I'll go to the radiation oncologist next…

Holidaying in Mallorca on Chemo and picc lines
Hi everyone. I have just had surgery for cancer of the colon - dr's say they don't believe it's spread, but are giving chemo for 24wks anyway - although the drugs they're due to give me are for 'advanced colorectal cancer'!..I'm assuming they think my body can take the onslaught as I'm (only!)41! - so are going for the…

Cracked fingers
There's been mention on various threads about cracked fingers and thought I'd open a new one with something that's worked for me. I had 8 cracks in various places on fingers, mostly at the tips at the "corners" of the fingernails. I've got them all under control -- at the moment. I used neosporin on the cracks before…

OUCH! mouth ulcers - suggestions?
I have really bad mouth ulcers. Well I guess it's mucositis really -- my whole mouth is very sore. Difficulty eating. Ouch! I'm using a rinse called Thymol gargle. And a soluble aspirin rinse -- about 4 x day both. And trying to rinse/sip room temperature water throughout the day. Not really getting better. Welcome any…

Number of posts
Has anyone else noticed how many posts colorectal has. Over 19000. Ovarian cancer has 5000+ posts. Is it there are more of us with colorectal or are we just more concerned with each other?

Surgery on Monday, June 4th
Hi, everyone! Monday, I go in for the removal of my entire left liver lobe. Cancer is so cruel. It waited until I was finally feeling good again and I mean really good, just to show its ugly self again. Its odd to know that I am feeling so healthy right now and that will be all over again on Monday knowing the aches and…

Woke up to semi heavy bleeding
Looks like a 3 day weekend for me! Doc told me if I had light bleeding after biopsies that was okay and I did but now I'm just letting loose. Calling in and going to see the doc. So glad at least it's a Friday. I hope this doesn't mean any kind of immediate surgery. I haven't gotten the second opinion yet and was excited…

thank you all for the thoughts and advice, got my pet scans back and it was not good, the chemo i was on did nothing, i now have a 6 cm mass on my abdominal wall, that explains the pain for sure, and a 2.5 cm mass on the lobe of my liver, i hope to start radiation next week and meet with the dr. at moffit on thursday,…

MRI 5/30/12.
Hi everyone. I haven't posted in awhile. I've been on chemo break since January 13th. I went back for MRI yesterday. She told me that she took 1100 images. I see Onc in the morning and get labs done. I am so scared. My last MRI 12 weeks ago showed 15 lesions still in both lobes of my liver. I haven't had treatment for 4…
