As time approachs the end of the year...
I sit and gaze at all of the wonderful holiday cards you, my family, have sent. And I am profoundly grateful that I have you as my strength and my warmth! I was asked during an interview for a magazine (yes, blush, another 5 minutes of fame..lol) why I still mentor, and expose myself to the pain along with the joy of…

After Chemo
My mother seems to think that she can take care of a high maintenance 2 year old for multiple days. I keep telling her that she may not be up to it as the chemo fatgue and other side effects can last up to a year after her last chemo treatment. She doesn't believe me and wants to see your opinion of this. She is on 5 FU.

Oncologist hospital visit
My oncologist came by the hospital this morning (his day off) to see me and one other patient. He brought no news, but spent almost two hours just talking with me. One of the things we discussed was long term survival. He thinks that great strides have been made in the last 10 yeasts or so, and that the rate of long term…

I posted about my mother a couple of weeks ago. Since then, there has been a few setbacks. Her chemo is no longer working and her stomach is very swollen. At this point they are just trying to control her pain and they are considering draining her stomach even though they say there is a risk for infection. Thursday she was…

Full Scoop on Surgery
Today I saw the main surgeon and have the full scoop in my surgeries. First will be the mass by the kidney, maybe, maybe not, depends on the mass, if it's too big, their going to leave it there and it will have to have radiation therapy later. If it's small enough they are going to be cutting it out, cutting the ureter,…

Liver Biopsy Next Week
I was diagnosed with stage IIIb colon cancer in August 2009, followed by a colectomy and then chemo--12 treatments of Folfox which lasted until April 2010. A pet scan and colonoscopy in spring/summer 2010 all came back clean. I know I've been very fortunate so far. However, I've had persistently high alkaline phosphatase…

In the hospital (update 12-17) (update 12/21)
Went to the Oncologist to find out the results of Friday's scan. I was in so much pain from a recent bm and the drive over that he sent me to the ER. The scan showed hot at my original tumor site (where the pain is) and at my inguenal node, causing them to suspect some kind of infection. Right now they are leaning towards…
