My bag keeper
Hey, If any one is interested, I put a photo of my “night time bag keeper” on the expressions page. The blue fabric is stretch nylon from an old swim suit of Susie’s. The other is from a T-shirt. You adjust it with the 4 Velcro tabs. The stretch nylon keeps it tight but lets the bag fill with no problem. This will keep the…

Hmmmm
Well, after this last refusal from stanford, just let me say, I'm tired of the upbeat crap we feed each other. I'm going to die, because I'm stage IV, and by golly we don't look at less then stage III, doesn't matter how well I did with chemo, doesn't matter about my CEA count, what matters is my stage, and gee, sorry we…

The greatest evening....
We spent with friends who travel all over the world. They just returned from a 10-week sailing adventure in Germany and Poland. We inheirited them from my beau's mom, who met the lady by sharing a hospital room with her at one point, long ago. They became fast friends. Now it's our turn, they are both incredible people.…

Fresh from Surgery
Well I'm back from Surgery and the hospital. My surgeon said the laproscoptic surgery would be about three hours but turned out to be six. The first problem was they could locate the tumor. It had been stained with ink two weeks before but was not on my left side as the gastro doc said it was on the right side on the…

Biopsy & thyroid appointments
The biopsy went well Friday. Double doses of the meds, and I was still fully alert - to be expected for me. I did feel a little pain, but only when he pushed to get into the node to clip another sample. I got a pain that shot down my back into my left hip and groin. But it stopped quickly. That was done 4 times, so no big…

Would like to find out how many ladies have been able to overcome any vaginal issues caused by radiation? What is working for you? I seem to be getting some good results using dilators and a couple of products, sorry for being graphic. Astro glide and replens are helping. On my way to getting back my groove. I had thought…

Appendix Cancer newbie
Hi. I was diagnosed with appendix cancer in late June 2010 after refusing to leave emergency until they explained a sharp pain in my lower right quadrant. The surgeon said he was going to treat it like we were taking out my appendix. The appendix was swollen into two bulges, one attached to the abdomen wall. The surgeon,…

More tales in the ongoing saga of living with a bag:
I get very protective of my stoma area when out doors, near other people. I try to avoid crowds and if anyone is on my left, where bag lies, I usually place a hand over stoma area to protect it and to push away,if need be, anyone getting too close. One of my neighbors has a son who is mildly autistic, Max. We get along…

I have come to the conclusion upon my 10 eh 5 eh 1 year study of why the jaw spasms when we take our first bite of food while on chemo... Based on a myriad of 30 white mice ( they were not hurt in these experiments...much) were given small doses of a platin based chemo and then after a certain number of days were given…

I am wondering if any of you have received any strange PM notices form this site. Or I should say that it looks like it came from this site. Great Article- Living with metastatic cancer long term
Yesterday while I was at my Onc office I read an article in "cure" magazine. It was a great article. It talks about the increasing number of "chronic" metastatic patients who are living long term with cancer. Suzanne Lindley is mentioned in the article. She was DX in 1998 with metastatic colon cancer. She was told she had…

I pulled the damn bag part way off in my sleep
OK, so I pulled the damn bag part way off in my sleep. Crap all over me and the bed. At least I was over the diarrhea stage. Not a fun thing to wake up to. Had to shower and put on a new bag before coffee time. Old guys can’t even think without coffee. I sleep in boxers and cover the bag with a T-shirt. The bag was just…

chemo "wroking" but CEA not dropping...
I'm currently on Xeliri plus Avastin for bone mets. Scan after 4 cycles showed the chemo is "working" -- (all the spots shrinking and/or lower "update" on PET). However, my CEA is still high (for me): down to about 17 (from 26) but now hovering there. The whole CEA thing is kinda new to me: I'm one of those people who did…

Food for Thought.....
As with any prescription medicine there are dos and dont's with each. I learned something that may be of interest to some that may not read the warning labels as closely as they might want to. I have read that in most cases the typical "grapefruit" will increase the potency of a dosage by a substantial amount if eaten…
