Stay focused and positive.
Good Morning and HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL OF THE LADIES. My name is Karen. I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in February, 2010, following a colonscopy. Pet Scan on Wed
I am getting a Pet Scan on Wed. I had one in March of 2009 right after my initial DX. I have had CT scans in between. I am getting this Pet Scan at a different facility . They told me to eat a no carb diet the day before starting at noon, not to exercise the day before and fast for 6 hours before. The other facility did…

I can declare to all of you today that I am back 100%
I can declare to all of you today that I am back 100%. After 2 years into my stage 4 journey every thing inside my body is back to normal. After being rotisserized with radiation while being internally basted with chemo, no longer do I have to run to the john. I now actually sit on it like a normal person and push to…

Off to see the CR surgeon "Wizard"…
Well this is (hopefully) the last weekend with my colostomy….I am off to “Oz” on Wednesday – (colonoscopy) – then Thursday – (reversal)…..so hopefully all the munchkins (internal organs) will be willing to work with me – and the reversal will go with out any wicked witches around! Alittle nervous...and really don't want to…

scan results not great - bone mets
Got my PET scan results this morning. Not so good. I have bone mets. Five (neck, rib, hip, pelvis, lower back). The good news is they are tiny. My onc wants to do a biopsy. He suspects my cancer has mutated (hence the rising CEA, when CEA has never been a good indicator for me before - not at initial diagnosis or with any…

surgery Thursday
Hi Everyone, ****'s surgery to remove the 1 lymph node is on Thursday, May 13 @ 10:00 California time. He met with Dr. Lenz and the surgeon and everyone said it is a good idea to take the lymph node out. Right now, that is the only place cancer is showing up on the PET. I pray that once it is out, **** can do some mop up…

My morning
Hi, everyone. I had a nice morning. I was invited to a local elementary school to speak about being a cancer survivor. It was just a short talk to some 2nd graders. The school does a mini Relay for Life each year. When the kids came out to hear me speak, they had all brought money to put in a bucket. The PE teacher, who…

Xeloda Starting Dosage
My husband has just completed eight FOLFOX/Avastin treatments (he had to stop Oxi after 4 sessions) for his stage four recurring colorectal cancer with mets to liver and lungs. His most recent CT scans showed stable disease in abdomen, slight decrease in liver, and slight increase in lungs .... his oncologist has switched…

got scan report today
I went to the records room and got my PET/CT scan report today. As I had mentioned as an update on my other post, I left the scan yesterday with a CD in hand, and I did look at it last night. The same old lit up spots were still visible on my lungs, liver. I couldn't tell about the rectal tumor (which showed as a…

Scans in
Hi, you are the ones I turn to when the disappointment hits. Got my scan results today. They aren't bad, the spots I had have grown some and there were some new ones (on my lungs) but no other spots anywhere else. I have been 12 weeks with no treatment, so now we know what happens! I have to wait for the onc at UCSF to…

Sensitive teeth to cold
My teeth have been sensitive since chemo (FOLFOX, stopped 2 years ago) and neither the Sensodyne toothpastes nor the prescription Prevident 5000 toothpaste is helping. It's mostly an issue when I rinse my mouth, if the water is cool, or if I bite into cold foods. Anyone else have this problem? Any solutions that I might…

Help with Disability
Some of you may already know that I had rectal cancer (T3) in 2008 and have lived with a stoma ever since . After recovery the doctor as well as nurses told me that I shouldn't lift anything or I could have my intestines come out of me. I tried to get on disability and was denied. That's a scary thought that could be very…

Neulasta after Folfiri and Avastin
I just had my third round of chemo last Friday. After the first round, I was horribly sick for a few days, but bounced back quickly. After the second round, I was not nearly as sick, but it took almost 2 weeks to feel better. I had only 3 good days that time. My onc said it was because my wbc was low-- 3.2 at the chemo…

scared and hurt
Tomorrow I go for a pet scan to see if after four years my rectal cancer has returned. My CEA went from 2.2 to 5.8. I have had to wait just over a week for the exam and in that time I have lost five pounds. I know my wife says its just stress and maybe she is right. Tomorrow will tell us nothing, we won't know until the…
