A precious something
My 7 year old grandson asked me last night how long I would like to live. I was about to open my mouth and say something like, "Oh, maybe 100 years." Then he floored me with this precious statement, "I want to live to infinity, so I can always be with you. Don't you want to live to infinity, Nanny?" Yes, precious boy, I…

I posted the last 3 Rock Paintings I did
Okay... Now I want all of you remember that I NEVER painted anything in my life. No Art classes or anything. So no laughing!! LOL My Mother in-law came down a few weeks ago and thought that painting would help me cope with my cancer. I thank her so much because it HAS helped. I know that you can't tell the size of these…

My mom's first chemo treatment - looking for words of advice
I'm looking for advice for my mother's difficult situation. Her port was apparently placed in an unusual spot and the nurse could not find the hole for her first treatment. The nurse, to my dismay and certainly to my mother's, continued to poke her repeatedly and still could not find the hole. My mother was possibly still…

Any hope for Stage IV with poor performance status?
My dad was diagnosed with Stage IV cc about three months ago. Apparently his cancer is very aggressive(he was feeling well, working on his kitchen remodel, and climbing ladders one week before dx!) and his doctor felt his tumor had not responded to chemo (he had three weeks of 5FU with oxaliplatin-one half dose and one…

Good news - CEA dropping!
CEA was 2 after surgery. Then I had a steady climb. But to be fair I had a lot going on that could affect that. The day I started chemo 8.1 After tx#1, it only rose to 8.2 (early it was taking jumps of 2 every two weeks). After tx#2 it dropped to 3.6!!! I don't have results back from yesterday's blood work to see what I am…

On 5-FU pump and getting CT today
Has anyone else had a CT while hooked up to their chemo pump? My oncologist and the nurse practiioner both reassured me that it isn't an issue. Bummer is I have a Power Port so it can tolerate the contrast so that I shouldn't need an IV started for scans. BUT - I'm hooked up to the chemo so the port is being used. The onc…

Friday Riddle*
Nudgie is out of town and asked if I would post a riddle today. Since last weeks went over like a lead balloon for the most part, I'll try this one instead. You know the rules, no Google or Internet searches allowed. What is it that when you take away the whole, you still have some left over? *Nudgie is NOT responsible of…

I hope I don't offend
When we first started this journey I was told my the nurse practioner that I could not make love to my husband without a condom, is this true for the two weeks in between? It is really miserable this way and very unfulfilling for me. How long does chemo stay in the body? and how would this hurt him? Patti No offense just…

My scans are CLEAR!
I sure wasn't expecting to find out the PET/CT results today since the test was this morning. But my GI surgeon who did the rectal scope exam this afternoon told me that the results were in and they were clear. I nearly fell of the chair then and there and starting a naked happy dance–but I restrained myself– until the…

I'm not Wild:(
Well I'm getting chemo right now and my oncologist stopped by to update me. She stated that my CEA was 1.5 which is good but I'm KRAS mutated so in the future my treatment options may be limited. I just feel that things are getting better bad news never stops coming. I'm just disappointed. People anyways tell me that I'm…

An amazing group of people
I am sitting here at work and checking the boards, and I cannot beleive how wonderful and supportive you all are. I never thought that when I was diagnosed with cancer that I would stumble upon a network of people with the same disease, that can help and guide each other. I have been on another board since my DX, however…

Hi all, I have been reading these boards for a while now, and I have been so comforted and impressed with all of your supportive, positive, and informed posts. question for Emily and Scouty about juicing and diet
I did get a juicer and had a couple of questions...what is a good juice to start with for colon cancer? At one time I think you said carrots, romaine, apples (can't remember) and the big question is what to eat as a diet in between juicing? I am not even sure how much to juice, I know Donna said she juiced too much and…

Question for Shayenne
Hi Donna, I am wondering if you remember how many rounds of folfiri you had before you started to get regrowth - I just had #6 & I am still losing and not regrowing hair on my head. Thanks!

Has any one had good response with folfox and then not the second time around?
My mom was dx in Nov 07 stage IV colon cancer. She had 12 rounds of folfox, her CEA got down to 8.9. She was switched to fFU w avastin, after four months her CEA started to rise. She was switched to irrinotecan her CEA went down and then started to rise. She had a scan and now she's back on folfox due to changes in liver…

oxiliplatin long term
I'm just curious about some of the folks who have talked about their oncs stopping oxi after 8 or 10 treatments. I'm scheduled to recieve oxi for 26 rounds of chemo and it kind of scares me. Especially when I read about folks whose drs stopped giving it to them. Makes me wonder if my onc thinks I'm a lost cause. Does my…

I will be honest some of them "just don't get it". I don't really expect that they would. That…

Frightened in Richmond Texas
Hello, My name is Mary, I am 50 and there is no history of colon cancer in my family. Today I went and saw a colon surgeon! I had a colonoscopy Nov. 2. My dr found a "soft tissue mass" and could not biopsy it because of my upper colon has so many turns. Anyway, I had a CT scan the day after Thanksgiving and there is…
